This passage describes God’s intention of a perfect world he created. The story depicted in Acts 9:36-43 surrounds the life, death, and resurrection of Tabitha (Dorcas) a female disciple. During her reign, Tabitha was described most positively because of her devoted work of always doing good and helping the poor. The power was invested upon Peter who sought after God when news got to him of the death of Tabitha, revealed an act of faith which shew the power of God through a miracle. Although Tabitha was regarded as an outstanding steward by the widows in her community as she would use her privilege,
prophetic speech, acts of kindness, etc., to benefit the less fortunate. God however had other plans and once again found a way to test the faith of the believers by removing the one thing that kept the community growing. God is very intentional in this passage and the author conveyed the importance of having faith and hope. God’s love and care were depicted in this passage through Tabitha who by faith gave all her resources to the less fortunate which eventually led lives to God. Peter whom God used as a chosen vessel to resurrect Tabitha displayed great faith as this was his first time praying for someone who had died. Peter throughout his many sermons and ministry was had similar encounters of desperate
people begging for help and therefore empathizing with the crying widows in Joppa, “and then he knelt and prayed.’ this was a humbling moment for Peter and revealed that to tap into God’s presence, it requires faith and humility. Gangel, K. (1998). Holman new testament commentary - acts
