For Christians, God’s mission is to reach all His children and bring them back to Him. This mission shapes up Christians’ sense of purpose. A Christian’s purpose extends beyond saving themselves or ensuring they get to heaven, but also engaging in the servitude of others and contributing to their society. Also, Christians engage in evangelism and global missions to get God’s word to other nations and all corners of the world. Aside from personal servitude, Christians are driven and guided by God’s mission to live an impactful life and help transform their communities. The Christian's purpose is to do God’s will and contribute to God’s kingdom. DQ1 comment 1 Through this class, I have come to understand the Christian worldview. I have
been able to identify what it means to be a Christian and what God/Jesus means in the Christian religion. I have been able to compare the Christian worldview and other worldviews to know how different other’s see the world and the similarities between these worldviews. I do love this class. It is not a new convert class purposely made to shove Christianity down one’s throat, however, It helps one think and see the world from a Christians perspective. DQ1 comment 2
Tyler,
Thank you for your submission. I love how you explain “Missio Dei”. We are all part of God’s bigger plan and therefore we must recognize our role and purpose and play the part to the glory of God. Finding one’s purpose can be challenging, however, like you suggested; exploration and self-reflection are key. We may discover our talents or might when we reflect on our abilities. We may learn so much about ourselves if we take such a path. In all, we should not be selfish but use our abilities and talents to contribute positively to our societies. DQ2
My future goal is to be a business developer. If One considers living my life through the lens of a Christian worldview, their purpose will have to fit into God’s mission. As a business developer, it will be important that one identifies business opportunities that serve people and not take advantage of
them. Business tactics and strategies must be in line with Christian morals and mission purpose. Businesses are to make profits; however, one must be involved in morally ethical business and not a business that draws people away from God. DQ2 comment 3
I am part of a charismatic church here in Chicago. Our church consists of members from different parts of the world. A higher percentage of the church
members are Africans. I chose to be a member because of the sense of community I experienced. There are shared cultures and values which makes
it easier for me to connect with others, especially the youth. I go to church to use my talent as a musician to worship with the members. DQ2 comment 4
Karen, Thank you for your submission. As a business major myself, I find what you are saying in agreement. One’s business, if they are a business owner must provide their clients/communities with goods and/or services that fulfill the Christian mission. For example, a Christian business person cannot open a drug ring in their community. Such a business destroys livelihoods and brings
violence to communities hence will go against the Christian missional purpose. Businesses such as farm markets, the sale of inspirational t-shirts, and youth counselors, among others are examples of businesses that can promote Christian missional purpose. DQ2 comment 5
Saysha, Thank you for your submission. I do agree with you about how one can find their purpose. The world is in need of so much. We live in a world filled with problems and imbalance. There are dreading issues like world hunger, diseases, cancer, logistic issues, and inequality that affect most people from all around the world. If anyone is to take on any of these challenges with some passion and zeal, they will be contributing to Missio Dei. Thank you for your service to the kids that you tutor. I wish you all the best in your business. DQ2 comment 6
Madison, Thank you for your submission. Yes, people can find their purpose through hobbies. I will use my story as an example. Growing up, one of my favorite things to do was play soccer. I loved the game so much that at one point in my life, that’s all I did. Nevertheless, through soccer, I discovered my passion
for helping others and taking leadership roles. Also, I found my weakness and strength in teamwork. It was through my hobby as a soccer player did I found my purpose to work with people and help them develop themselves and businesses. DQ2 comment 7
Jordann, Thank you for your submission. I believe through passion, one can find their purpose. This belief branches into how our passion can change and it can affect our purpose over time. As we grow, our purpose can change
depending on what we find passionate or what God wants from us. Just like you had mentioned, God’s purpose for us is never-ending. An example is how
God used Moses in the bible. Throughout Moses’s life, his purpose changed when God needed him to do something different. As we live to be part of God’s bigger plan, we must understand that our purpose might change as God sees fit. When that happens, we must not behave like Jonah and we must listen. DQ2 comment 8
Tyler, Thank you for your submission. I agree with you. As Christians, we must present ourselves as Christlike not just at church but in our workplaces. We must live an exemplary life for our children, and mentees to follow suit. I believe one of our mission purposes as Christians is to create an environment and space where others can come to us and we may lead them to Christ. We must be there for each other to help them through their struggles. Establishing a sense of community is what exactly Jesus taught the disciples as they moved, ate, and lived together. I wish you the best in your future endeavors. You shall do great!
