NU 611 Week 1 DB 1 Now that you have reviewed models for clinical decision-making construct a discussion that reflects on an encounter you have had with a primary care provider. Up until recently, I've always gone to an NP for my primary care. After relocating across the states my most recent visit for primary care patient establishment and physical was with an MD. In this initial encounter, I immediately felt the difference between the relationship I once had and the formation of a new one in regard to my care. As a new patient, I felt health decision-making was more task-oriented and concrete without the inclusion of lifestyle habits and home-life balance. Preventative care was not discussed but rather follow-up visits as necessary without education on what could make things worse. My experience in prior interactions with the NP offered a shared decision-making approach that was inclusive of my lifestyle, maintenance, and preventative measures to remain well. In reflection of this approach, the shared approach offered insight into me as an individual, my beliefs, lifestyle, preferences, and ability to decide for care based on those values. The SHARE approach included an equitable and inclusive approach to health care that supports decision- making and encompasses individuality ( Supported Decision Making: Skills and Tools for Clinical Practice, 2023). The difference in approach left me feeling confident in my health maintenance and take ownership of my care with the SHARE approach. I would leave the office confident on how to prevent unnecessary trips back in and to maintain where I am, but also other options for upcoming screenings and things to look out for. As a patient, you feel the autonomy and support in your care and accountability after. Reference Kasper, J., Liethmann, K., Heesen, C., Reissmann, D. R., & Geiger, F. (2019).
