Assessment 4 Instructions Informatics and Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators Hello everyone; I am Lilian Pamela, and thank you for dedicating your time to participate in our discussion. This presentation aims to provide an overview of the advancements made in healthcare facilities, particularly in implementing and using Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators (NDNQI). These indicators have been instrumental in improving the overall quality and effectiveness of healthcare services within our organization. I am here to discuss the achievements made in the context of hospitals. Nursing-Sensitive Quality Indicator What is the National Database of Nursing-Sensitive Quality Indicators? The current healthcare system desperately needs treatment that prioritizes outcomes and is financially accessible. The American Nurses Association (ANA) has devised nursing-sensitive quality metrics to examine patient care and the correlation between treatment cost and overall quality to achieve this objective. The Nursing Care Quality Index (NDNQI) is a comprehensive database that evaluates the standard of nursing care nationally ( Eglseer et al., 2021). The NDNQI comprises information collected from various local, state, and national levels. Implementing quality measures enhances nursing care, facilitating the adoption of evidence-based practices and optimizing healthcare delivery. What are nursing-sensitive quality indicators? Nursing Sensitive quality metrics involve three critical nursing care indicators: structural, process, and outcome. The patient outcomes are associated with the outcome indicators, while the processes of evaluating, administering, and ensuring job satisfaction among nurses are connected to the process aspect. Additionally, the structure of nursing care is correlated with the
educational background and level of expertise of the nursing personnel. The year 1999 witnessed the utilization of ten nurse indicators for emergency care by the American Nurses Association (ANA). Consequently, there has been a significant development, including additional quality indicators annually. Which particular quality indicator did you select to address in your tutorial? I opted to delve into RN education. Why is this quality indicator important to monitor? This quality indicator is vital since most hospital settings increasingly require a bachelor's degree in nursing. Furthermore, the nursing profession is undergoing a transformative shift, transitioning from a duty-oriented focus to one that emphasizes a higher level of professionalism. Education facilitates the acquisition of new skills among nurses, providing higher quality care grounded in evidence and delivered within a safer patient environment. Besides, medics with higher levels of education exhibit a reduced frequency of prescribing medication errors, an increased tendency to assist their patients, and a lower overall mortality rate. Most nurses in healthcare organizations possess a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree (Li et al., 2019). Nurses have a professional responsibility to engage in ongoing education to remain well- informed of the latest advancements in patient care and to actively contribute to and partake in research endeavors conducted within the healthcare institution. Why must new nurses be familiar with this quality indicator when providing patient care? The awareness of newly licensed nurses regarding the level of their RN education is crucial as it serves as a significant quality indicator, given the mandatory nature of ongoing education for nurses. A nurse must undergo the license renewal process twice yearly to get a

Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Many healthcare organizations require registered nurses to engage in annual continuing education courses to qualify for career progression and salary increments. Nurses can be motivated to engage in evidence-based initiatives, thereby contributing to the ongoing development of hospitals. Other than that, there is a requirement for recently licensed nurses to participate in nursing training sessions to equip them with the necessary skills to develop and present an evidence-based practice project to a group of experienced nurses and management personnel. By offering ongoing training, they are facilitating the development of both the individual and the profession, equipping these nurses with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in such roles. Collection and Distribution of Quality Indicator Data According to your interview and other resources, how does your organization collect data on this quality indicator? I interviewed a staff educator to understand data quality indicators relevant to the acute care setting. To gather data on quality, patient experience, and staff education levels, our company relies extensively on data collection from our employees and the patients under our care. All recently hired nurses at a hospital designated as a magnet healthcare facility are expected to obtain their bachelor's degree within four years after their employment. According o Wei et al. (2023), all magnet hospitals prioritize the significance of advanced nursing science and education. The hospital must collect comprehensive data on nurse-sensitive metrics for each unit to receive accreditation. To adhere to the stipulated regulations, they must provide the above information to national databases when required. In the healthcare system context, the role of a nursing data analyst entails overseeing and managing this particular task. The hospital is actively monitoring each nurse's nursing experience and educational background.
The Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey, given to all patients following their discharge, can also serve as an indicator of the educational needs of the staff. This survey aims to collect information regarding patients' perspectives. The data collected will be made publicly available to promote transparency and hold hospitals accountable for the quality of treatment. Additionally, this survey aims to create reasons for enhancing care quality. The healthcare system utilizes this data to determine areas of nursing care that require enhancement, subsequently customizing the education of nursing personnel to address these identified needs effectively. Due to the direct correlation between nurses' compensation and these ratings, a motivation exists to incorporate evidence-based care models such as the bedside shift report. Notably, a comprehensive understanding of nursing is vital for delivering exceptional care and enhancing patient satisfaction. The patient education component of HCHAPS is liable upon nurses upholding their level of competence, particularly regarding discharge instructions. The provision of accurate and understandable information to patients is a fundamental responsibility entrusted to nurses. In addition to monitoring the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS), the nursing data analysis team also designs and implements web-based surveys for staff members to complete after training sessions (Sheldon, 2022). It is essential to engage in these surveys as a means to increase training credit hours. Due to employees' historical lack of completion, the post-training surveys have been incorporated into the web-based training platform. To meet the requirements for training, it is necessary to complete the survey before proceeding. How does the organization disseminate aggregate data?
The HCHAPS survey collects data that is potentially accessible to the general public, and subsequently, the findings are recorded in a nationwide database. When I inquired about the accessibility of data about the level of nursing education, I was informed that this information is classified as confidential and is neither actively disseminated nor made accessible to the broader public. The general public cannot access it. Nursing educators use exclusive data regarding staff in-service training and education that is not readily accessible to the general public. What role do nurses play in supporting accurate reporting and high-quality results? Nurses must continue disclosing nursing errors without fear of retribution or other consequences. Without accurate data reporting, making any changes or modifications is impossible. In situations where individuals lack awareness of a problem, providing education becomes unnecessary. It is important that nurses respond to health organization questionnaires that are distributed to them to ensure accurate data collection. Health organizations carry out the distribution of these surveys.
