2 10.1 HP DISC-Disparities in Vulnerable Populations The homeless are one of the most vulnerable populations that I deal with, both in my caseload and in my area. People who are homeless face a range of challenges, one of which is a lack of access to competent medical care (Gaetz et al., 2019). Despite the fact that many homeless people suffer from diseases such as mental illness, drug abuse, and HIV/AIDS, they typically lack access to the resources needed to treat their chronic health conditions. Furthermore, since they lack health insurance or adequate financial resources, homeless persons sometimes may not have access to preventive health care, such as vaccines and screenings for cancer and other disorders. This is a serious concern. This may have a number of negative consequences, including an increased risk of infection, disease, and even death. It is critical for everyone working in the health care business to recognize and address the health care disparities that homeless people face in order to ensure that these individuals get the medical treatment they need. The disparities in access to health care that homeless individuals face may have a significant impact on the outcomes of health promotion programs. Because they lack access to preventive health care, such as vaccines and screenings, homeless people are at a considerably greater risk of contracting life-threatening illnesses and infections (Liu et al., 2019). Furthermore, persons who are homeless may be more likely to engage in dangerous behaviors such as drug abuse and other harmful activities if they do not have access to good mental health services. Furthermore, persons who are homeless often lack access to nutritious food and other necessities, which adds to their overall poor health. Because all of these factors may raise the risk of death and morbidity among the homeless, it is even more critical to ensure that they have access to the services and health care that they need.
