1 Role Identification/Scope of Practice Assignment NURS 110 Introduction to Professional Nursing Delegation Right Description 1 Right Task The registered nurse (RN) assesses patients and determines appropriate tasks to delegate based on legal regulations and policies. 2 Right Circumstance Tasks are delegated based on individual patient circumstances, needs, and safety considerations (Kandrack & Martsolf, 2021. p. 210). 3 Right Person Delegated tasks are assigned to healthcare workers who are legally authorized and competent to perform them within their scope of practice. 4 Right Supervisor The RN remains responsible for ensuring that delegated tasks are completed correctly and within the legal scope of practice (Long, 2021). 5 Right Direction and Communication Clear and effective communication is essential to ensure that instructions for delegated tasks are understood and followed correctly (Kandrack & Martsolf, 2021. p. 212).
2 RN LPN CNA/UAP Assessment, care plan, implementation, evaluation, Conduct comprehensive patient assessments. Develop and update care plans. Obtain initial vital signs Obtain and record vital signs like blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, and temperature. Administer medications as prescribed, including oral and injectable medications. Prioritize patient care based on the principles of Airway, Breathing, and Circulation. Start IV lines as delegated by the RN or physician. Assist with wound dressing changes and sterile procedures. Delegate CNA EKG Delegate the task of performing EKGs to a certified nursing assistant (CNA) when appropriate Assist patients in transferring to different departments or diagnostic areas. Delegate the administration of specific medications to a licensed practical nurse (LPN) (Long, 2021). Assist with transportation to MRI, CT, X rays Complete delegated patient monitoring for fall risk Delegate CNA to watch the patient when fall risk. Assign a CNA to provide close supervision for patients at risk of falls. Assist nurse in feeding patient that is on a normal diet Delegate LPNs to assist with urinary catheter management as needed Observe and record patient data Assist the nurse with bed linen replacement Delegate CNA to feed patient that is on a normal diet Provide education on healthcare topics to patients and their families Delegate the task of assisting patients with bedpan usage and removal Discharge and instructions for follow- up Provided oxygen to the patient Ensure environmental safety and precautions Delegate LPN to assist with catheter Ensure that the environment is safe for the patient Continuously assess and maintain a safe patient environment Ensure that the environment is safe for the patient Assist RN with discharge Assist the RN in the discharge process, including patient preparation and documentation. Communicated with provided for further treatment for the patient Communicate with providers for further treatment for the patient Facilitate communication with other healthcare providers for additional treatment or consultations (Long, 2021).
