2 Article Review The article “Obstacles and Problems of Ethical Leadership from the Perspective of Nursing Leaders: A Qualitative Content Analysis” by Barkhordari-Sharifabad et al. (2017) looks at the ethical challenges nursing leaders face in their daily work environment. Barkhordari-Sharifabad et al. (2017) article delve into the obstacles and problems of ethical leadership from the perspective of nursing leaders. Barkhordari-Sharifabad et al. (2017) employ a qualitative content analysis to examine the experiences of nursing leaders to develop an understanding of ethical leadership. The article examines nurse leaders' difficulties in promoting and upholding ethical practices in their roles. The authors conducted a qualitative content analysis of interviews with 14 experienced nurse leaders from Iran. Barkhordari-Sharifabad et al. (2017) found that the most common obstacles to ethical leadership were lack of awareness of ethical issues, lack of knowledge of ethical principles, lack of commitment to ethical values, lack of organizational support for ethical leadership, lack of accountability for ethical leadership, and lack of motivation for ethical leadership (Barkhordari-Sharifabad et al. 2017). The strengths of the article are twofold. Firstly, the authors used a rigorous methodology to examine their research question. Barkhordari-Sharifabad et al. (2017) used qualitative content analysis to analyze semi-structured interviews with nursing leaders. This gave them the opportunity to explore the obstacles and problems experienced by nursing leaders in a more in-depth and nuanced manner. Notably, Barkhordari-Sharifabad et al. (2017) provided a detailed analysis of the study's results. In addition to identifying the obstacles and problems experienced by nursing leaders, the authors also provided an analysis of the implications of their findings for healthcare leadership. The article's weaknesses include the fact that the sample size was relatively small and the participants all came from the same geographical region, which may have influenced the
3 results. Additionally, the authors needed to provide more detail on the methods used in the study. For example, no information was provided on the recruitment process or how the interviews were conducted. Barkhordari-Sharifabad et al. (2017) article is relevant to healthcare leadership as it highlights the difficulties that nurse leaders face in promoting and uphold ethical practices. The article has shown that several obstacles can hinder nurse leaders' ability to lead ethically, such as a lack of support from senior management, a lack of resources and training, and organizational policies that could be more conducive to ethical leadership. Furthermore, Barkhordari-Sharifabad et al. (2017) article has demonstrated the importance of considering the issues and dilemmas around healthcare leadership and the need for further research into the subject. In my work as a healthcare leader, this article has made me more aware of nurse leaders' difficulties in promoting and upholding ethical practices. It has also highlighted the importance of providing adequate support and resources to nurse leaders and ensuring that organizational policies are conducive to ethical leadership. Additionally, this article has reinforced the need for further research into the subject, as it has highlighted the potential for more obstacles to be identified. Healthcare leaders need to be aware of the challenges and problems of ethical leadership in order to create an environment that is conducive to ethical decision-making and behavior. The article has also reinforced the importance of understanding the obstacles and problems faced by nursing leaders in developing and maintaining an ethical framework for their teams and has provided me with an understanding of how to address these obstacles.
