2 Conflicts within Healthcare Organizations The major causes of conflict in healthcare organizations include the absence of well- defined standards, difficulties in fostering effective teamwork, disparities in the quality of treatment provided, rivalry among professionals, and insufficient financial resources. The role of the nurse supervisor as a mediator is crucial in resolving disputes within the nursing profession. According to Corbett (2023), leaders devote around 25–40 percent of their effort to solving conflicts among staff members. Various tools are used in an attempt to mitigate or prevent conflicts. Several strategies can be employed to address conflicts in the workplace. One approach involves facilitating open communication among staff members to discuss the underlying issues contributing to the conflicts. Additionally, staff members can be encouraged to generate potential solutions to mitigate these problems. Proactive measures can also be implemented, such as early resolving workplace conflicts before they escalate. Furthermore, providing training and education to equip staff members with the necessary tools to address minor conflicts in their roles effectively can be beneficial. I believe the best model would be Thomas Kilmann's conflict management model. The model is optimal for resolving conflicts within the nursing staff and the broader healthcare context (Freedman, 2019). The conflict resolution in this model adopts a two-step dimension theory, whereby individuals engaged in the conflict are instructed to be assertive and cooperative. To exhibit assertiveness, it is important to cultivate a sense of self-contentment and prioritize one's needs. For individuals to be cooperative, they must prioritize the well-being and interests of others above their own. According to this theoretical perspective, the resolution of any issue necessitates the prior attainment of personal happiness.
