Nice post. Given the situation above, a holistic approach is indicated. The patient needs a healing with the mind, body and spirit. As care providers, we provide a helping hand using the applicable nursing theories such as Watson’s theory of Human Caring. Treatment should target all aspects to improve the well being of the patient. I definitely agree with you that a collaboration between the patient and care providers is needed to develop plan of care. The autonomy of the patient should be maintained in making decisions on what treatment reflects their preferences. Engaging a collaborative partnership between patients and clinicians can help in making better decisions and activate patients’ interest in their care (Krist et al., 2020). Having the patient proactively participating in care planning can increase motivation and adherence to the treatment. As clinicians, we provide guidance and provide options for treatment. Through this, we provide a patient centered care and we become a healing environment for them.
