Early Childhood Education Compare & Contrast paper As early childhood educators we all have our
own philosophies and approaches to education. There are several types of early childhood programs.
Each program has its own philosophies, methods, and program goals. Every early childhood
educator is unique making each early childhood program experience special. Consistently, early
childhood programs offer educational foundations that prepare young students for their educational
futures. In this paper I will focus on comparing and contrasting two programs that stood out to me,
Ridgeline Montessori and the Whitaker Head Start. When examining early childhood programs
there are many similarities and differences across the board.

Materials and manipulatives are spread along the outside walls of the classroom and children are
free to choose which type of materials they would like to work with during independent work time.
You do not notice any individual desks and chairs set up in the classroom, rather a few tables and
chairs grouped together. The furniture is all child size and you do not see any adult sized furniture
throughout the classroom. Students spend most of their time working on the floor where they have
their own individual carpets. They put them down to outline their personal workspace. Instead of
there being various toys and games spread through out the classroom, there are specific sensory
materials and manipulatives that are self correcting and purposeful to student's learning. On the
walls students' work fill spaces throughout the classroom, similar to the walls of a Head Start
classroom. Montessori classrooms are made up of mixed grades and ages, something that is not
typical of traditional classrooms. The Head Start program I visited uses a more traditional
comprehensive method. Students are all close to the same age. Since the program is federally funded
there is much emphasis put on performance standards and teaching objectives. The classrooms at
Head Start are a center based classroom with different areas for pretend play, math manipulatives,

Compare And Contrast Essay On Social Media
Today, social media is greatly utilized. In this essay I'll explain the similarities and differences
between Andrea Shea and Josh Rose of how each feel about social media. Social media is impacting
and changing people's everyday lives. Social media now a day is used in everyday lifestyle, and is
easy to connect with others no matter how far they are. In Andrea Shea, Shea expresses how
Facebook isn't real. Andrea talks about how people take so much time to make to take a picture
perfect images that its almost fake. People of Facebook try and pretend that their lives are so perfect,
and doing that bringing others down because they want to be just like the person. How people try to
make it seem like their having so much fun so they could have more friends and likes. Andrea
expresses the negative and positive about Facebook now a day pretty well. She explains how the
good in Facebook could be bad for some. Like having access to other people's photos being able to
trigger emotional pain and

They both explain the research and personally from other people about the title. I believe that these
two articles are different because of how many differences and negatives about social media that
Andrea had. While Josh Rose explain many more positives about social media then Andrea did.
These two articles also have many similarities though, such as both articles believe that social media
is very time consuming. Overall I feel like the two authors had a strong and support details to their
arguments about social media. Social media every day is changing and more and more people are
starting to get connect due to all the positives it has. In our era I believe that people would always
want Facebook because of the face of how many people you meet a how much closer you feel to
someone no matter the distance they are. Facebook and social media will continue to upgrade and
become a reliably site for all

Essay on The Old Man and the Sea Outline

American Literature Honors
18 April 2012
The Various Themes of The Old Man and the Sea
I. Introduction A. The story of a battle between an experienced fisherman, a marlin, and the
struggles the old man has to overcome to be victorious. B. In Santiago, the central character of Old
Man and the Sea, Earnest Hemingway has created a hero who personifies honor, courage,
endurance
, and faith. II. Honor A. As Santiago goes too far trying to catch the marlin, he ignores all
the hardships involved in his duel, eventually catching the fish, justifying his pride and self–
reliance. B. "You are killing me, fish, the old man thought
. But you have a right to. Never have I
seen a greater, or more beautiful, or

B. In the novel, one was able to tell of the courage it took to kill the marlin. One can contrast this
with Santiago's killings of the sharks, which took little to no courage to do. C. For one brief
moment, Santiago accepts defeat, saying, "I never knew how easy it is when you're beaten." But, of
course, Santiago is not beaten. He has the courage left to return home, to drag himself to his hut, to
face Manolin, and to accept the loss of his greatest catch. IV. Enduring A. A big example of
Santiago's endurance is his will to stay out on sea and fish, even though he has been unlucky. He
doesn't catch great fish like he used to, and can barely even feed himself, but stills finds it in himself
do what he is passionate for. B. "'Fish,' he said softly, aloud, 'I'll stay with you until I am dead.' He'll
stay with me too, I suppose, the old man thought and he waited for it to be light.'" (52–53) C. 'I must
save all my strength now. Christ, I did not know he was so big.' 'I'll kill him though,' he said. 'In all
his greatness and his glory.' Although it is unjust, he thought. But I will show him what a man can
do and what a man endures." (66) V. Faith A. His faith is shown at the beginning of the book when
we found out that he has gone through eighty–four days of bad luck. Everyone knows that Santiago
has lost his touch, but he still manages to go out every day, to fish, and do what he has been for his
whole lifetime. His faith

Compare And Contrast Depression And Anxiety
Depression and anxiety are the two most common mental illnesses in the world today. They make a
person view the world as an ugly, scary place. Many people develop one or the other, and some
develop both. Depression and anxiety are two very different mental illnesses but many people only
see the similarities between them, instead of seeing the difference in their symptoms and emotions.
One of the many differences between depression and anxiety
, is their symptoms. According to
Harold Cohen (2016) from psychcentral.com, people with depression have low energy and
"..depressed people often feel overwhelmed by the day–to–day tasks and personal relationships so
essential to life" (para.2). When someone has depression they lose interest in things they used to
love, and they tend to push friends and family away. They also often experience headaches,
insomnia, and a change in appetite. Meanwhile, people with anxiety experience panic attacks in
situations where other people would not. They also feel restless, they shake and sweat, and they
always have a constant worry. The symptoms of anxiety are very different from depression. A
person with anxiety would not have low energy, quite the opposite actually. Someone suffering from
anxiety has a high energy, but is always in a constant state of worry or fear
.
Along with the different symptoms of anxiety, they also make the person dealing with the illness
feel differently, emotionally. People who have anxiety often feel like they want to

Compare And Contrast Doctors And Nurses
Doctors and Nurses: Comparing Careers Have you ever wondered what really distinguishes nurses
from doctors? Most people see the name and already think that doctors are more qualified. Others
think that nurses are the big deal and do most of the work. Doctors have been around long before
there were nurses. Doctors rely on nurses to help the hospital run smoothly. Both careers have
different job levels which differ from each other but are all just as important. Both jobs have many
similarities like basic skills, and medicine and diagnosis treatment, but they also have differences,
like the amount of field study, income, and rigorous years of schooling. In the first place, both
careers have to develop basic skills such as communication and people skills. They have to be able
to communicate with their patients and their family members. Along with this skill, both have to be
able to treat patients with respect, even if they come across a difficult patient. On top of having to
communicate with people, they must be able to work on the technology. Doctors and nurses must
have the ability to operate the machinery. They must also know how to read the data that appears on
the screen. Another similarity that both careers have is that they are allowed to legally prescribe
medicine and to give a diagnosis. Doctors are normally the ones that prescribe the necessary
medication. Nurses are also allowed to determine the best medication for the patient's treatment.
Nurses are the first to

Compare and Contrast Two Short Stories
Compare and Contrast Two Short Stories––
Landlady by Roald Dahl and Chemistry by Graham Swift
There are lots of great short stories out there, but in my opinion, both 'Chemistry' by Graham Swift
and 'The Landlady' by Roald Dahl are two of the most unique and effective stories. They share both
similarities and differences throughout. Comparing and contrasting the way the authors use their
inimitable writing style to achieve their intentions in the story will give us more idea how these
stories are alike and distinct.
In a way, these two stories are similar because both the authors had carefully chosen the
words

In the beginning , Billy thought the landlady was 'terribly nice',which he was quite grateful to have
such a nice landlady who give him a well–appointed service, but as the conversations go on, Billy
was then frightened by her weird and creepy contents, he 'sat there staring straight ahead of him into
the far corner of the room, biting his lower lip.' tells the readers that he's begin to frightened and
suspect landlady, foreshadowing the readers that she might be doing something that couldn't be
trusted by Billy.
In another way, these two stories are different because the authors have been using different
perspective when narrating the story. In 'Chemistry', author's written the story in the word of
narrator
, mixing both the perspective of adult and young boy's. Line" My father's death was a far
less remote event than my grandfather's but no more explicable, I was only seven." can be a good
example. Almost the whole story was written in past tense, added to the effect of recalling. He's
shown a grown up man recalling memories when he was back in 7–10 years old. This kind of
writing style makes readers felt more personal, because the subject is 'I', when reading out the story,
readers will feel like they're experiencing the narrators' life, as if they are the narrator. Also, another
interesting fact about this kind of writing style is that if I were to look at the same events in other
character's perspective, it might be another whole different story because

Outline Of A Comparative Essay
Skylar Windholz English 12 Period 5 Outline for Comparative Essay Topic Sentence #1: The novels
are seen as a warning sign for future generations about the consequences of technology, science, and
uncontrolled power. Topic sentence: 1984 focuses on the uncontrolled power of the state. "In the end
the party would announce that two and two make five, and you would have to believe it" (page 80).
The party was absolute to the point that anything they said and did would eventually become true.

which might hold any political or ideological significance" (page 39–40). This refers to the process
of changing the past and how the party is able to

happiness. From the moment they are created, they are stuck in this way of living. Topic Sentence
#2: Societies with no sense of individuality will eventually turn into a dystopia where freedom and
inquisitiveness are replaced by a totalitarian regime. Topic sentence: Big Brother and the party
control every single aspect of the citizen's lives. "Don 't you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is
to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thoughtcrime literally impossible, because
there will be no words in which to express it" In 1984 every thought is considered a threat towards
the party. No sense of individualism exists. There is no hierarchy like in Brave New World, the only
power that exists is Big Brother and everyone else belongs to the same "caste". "Sexual intercourse
was to be looked on as slightly disgusting minor operation" The party represses natural, human
instincts to control them. Doublethink: "To hold simultaneously 2 opinions which cancel out" (page
35). Changes the truth. Doublespeak: Language used to disguise the actual meaning. "Newspeak" is
enforced to eliminate words and replace emotion, words like "excellent" are replaced with
"plusgood" or "plusplusgood". They are controlled to speak the way the party wants them to. Topic

The entire story was just a snapshot that occurred in his mind before his death. Ambrose Bierce
purposefully continues to build the anticipation that the devout Union soldier had escaped, only to
drop the reader into a tale of demise and overall doom. 'The Red Convertible' by Louise Endrich
was written in 1984 and revolves around a Vietnam veteran and his brother. Lyman Lamartine is a
young man whose brother has just returned from the Vietnam War and has been traumatized by what
he had seen overseas.
Before the war, Lyman and his brother Henry were extremely close. Before Henry departed for the
war, and as Lyman recounts in the story, the two bonded over a red convertible. This car proves to
be symbolic, both throughout, and at the end of the story, due to the change in Henry's behavior,
illustrated by this quote from when Henry returns: "We had always been together before. But he was
such a loner now that I didn't know how to take it."
When Henry returns, he has no desire to ride in the red convertible, no desire to wear the bright
colored clothes he used to dawn–– instead Henry just liked to sit around and sob about the war. The
quote from the middle of the story, speaking about the television, and how Henry just sat "in front of

Community College vs University Essay examples
Compare and Contrast Essay
Community College vs. Universities
Choosing a college means going to a new, unfamiliar world of immense possibilities. One of the
hardest decisions a high school graduate face is the choice between attending a Community College
or a University. Although Universities and Community College serve the same purpose, each has its
differences and similarities in their learning such as the admission requirements, expenses, size, and
student life. Community College are the most common type of two–year College that prepares you

Students attending private universities pay an average tuition of $35,374. Those who attend a
community college for the first two year of their education save $8,000 or more. Since most of the
same financial aid including Pell grants and Stafford loans is available for any institution choice,
students in the lowest income brackets can expect a larger financial aid refund from a community
college than a university. Those who need a university education to meet their career goals may be
able to attend a community college part time while they work and save up. Then, when they transfer
to a university for their final two years, they may have saved enough that with financial aid, they can
pursue their four–year degree.
Community Colleges tend to have fewer students per class, which means more attention from
teacher to student. This is good for students who like access to their instructors so they can ask
questions and avoid getting lost in the course material. Universities are bigger than community
colleges and it takes a little longer to find your way around campus. Most teenagers graduate from
high school eager to leave their parents house and do grown up things. The benefit of attending a
University is living on campus instead of your parent's home. Not all universities have dorms, but
the majority of them do. Which you have to pay for parking, fitness center, laundry and other fees
included. Both university and community colleges sponsor

Compare And Contrast Anxiety And Depression
There are many similarities between mental disorders like anxiety and depression. Often times,
many symptoms of one disorder stem off of having the other. For example, symptoms of anxiety can
be brought on by depressive thoughts, such as thoughts about suicide, and visa versa. The
differences, however, are far more prominent than the ways they are the same. Anxiety is a disorder
characterized by fear, doubt, and a sense of vulnerability. People with anxiety tend to have less
noticeable symptoms than people with depression, as symptoms of anxiety are things such as
physical sensations of strong emotions of fear. Depression symptoms are more physical and
noticeable from the outside, such as lack of eating or sleep, or lack of interest in doing things.
People with depression may become

Anxiety can also run in families, or be caused by outside conditions such as excessive stress, drastic
changes in living conditions, or abuse. Depression on the other hand, is caused by changes in brain
chemistry. However, like anxiety, depression can be caused by genetics and medical conditions that
create an imbalance of the brain's chemicals. Depressive episodes often last for days, leaving a
person mopey and sluggish, or, on the other side of the spectrum, frighteningly up, or manic. This is
when a person seems to have boundless energy and doesn't sleep for days. Episodes of anxiety last
much shorter periods of time, flaring up and disappearing within the same day. Symptoms of an
episode can include increased heart rate, sweating, and trembling. These can be combatted with
controlled breathing, while generally, depressive episodes have to run their course. Anxiety and
depression are two very different, though just as harmful disorders. When you have one, you
generally have the other It's a vicious cycle, but luckily, there are proven ways to break it. Help is an

with the Other Wes's mother was that she too was never home, but the contrast lye with the mistake
she made with leaving Tony as the only guardian. "Wes, now eight years old, was free from any

during the daylight hours and was fiercely protective of the little brother who idolized him. But
lately even Tony hadn't been around much (Moore 26)."
In conclusion, both Wes Moore's had critical moments and different standpoints throughout the

individually made that ultimately determined there fates. "Wes and I stared at each other for a

A Comparison of Two Schools of Psychology
There are many different schools of psychology, each have their own views and they all look at
psychology from different perspectives. I am going to outline six perspectives and then compare and
contrast two schools.
The biological perspective and major figures such as Karl Lashley looks to the body to explain the
mind, they look at hormones, genes, the brain, and the central nervous system to explain the way we
think, feel and act. The psychodynamic perspective and major figures such as Sigmund Freud views
behaviour as driven by powerful mental conflicts locked deep within the subconscious. The
behaviourist perspective and major figures such as John
...show more content...
In order to enable me to compare and contrast the psychodynamic approach and the behaviourist
approach they must be discussed in more depth. Behaviourism is a movement in psychology that
advocates the use of strict experimental procedures to study observable behaviour or responses in
relation to the environment. B.F Skinner was a behavioural psychologist who became famous for his
work with rats using his "Skinner box". He took the extreme liberty of transferring his experience
and theories of rats directly to humans. It should be kept in mind that rats and people are
tremendously different creatures, yet Skinner had no problem with easily assuming what was true
for rats, on a very simple scale, would be applicable to humans in very different and complex
situations. Classical and operant conditioning played a large part in Skinners research (Glassman,
2000).
In a traditional behavioural approach, Skinner followed in the footsteps of Pavlov and Watson. This
view puts across that the subject matter of human psychology is only the behaviour of the human
being. Behaviourism claims that consciousness is neither a definite nor a usable concept. The
behaviourist holds the belief in the existence of consciousness; it goes back to the ancient days of
superstition and magic. The behaviourists asks: why don't we make what we can (Nye, 2000).

Iphone vs. Androind Compare and Contrast Essay
Comparing Smart Phones: iPhone and Android
Over the last decade, electronic–based companies such as Samsung and Apple have collaborated
with cellular–phone carriers, and have studied the average consumer to find endless ways to
improve the cellular phone. As a result, the smart phone was born. With their ability to provide users
with instant access to communication, entertainment, Internet access, calendar, news, social media,
and much more, the smart phone revolutionized and shifted the path of modern technology. In 2006,
Apple began this revolution with their release of the iPhone
. Being the first proper smart phone,
many other companies attempted to mimic the unbeatable features and technology that Apple had
included with the iPhone.

However, because of the fact that Apple refuses to allow other manufacturers to use the iPhone's
IOS software, there are only six models of the iPhone. Differences in appearance are evident as well.
For example, higher–end Android phones have been noted for their screens that are much larger than
that of the iPhone. However, this limits the screen's resolution, which is much greater on the iPhone
for this very reason.
Another similarity between the iPhone and Android are their features. For example, both include a
high–resolution camera and MP3 player. In terms of connectivity, they both allow 3G, 4G, and Wi–
Fi connection. Like all modern smart phones, they are both based on very similar downloadable
applications, and both include a very similar app store
. Like the iPhone, the Android also includes a
similar notification center, allowing users to view a log of missed calls, text messages, and other
notifications from apps.
As stated prior, iPhone and Android share many of the same applications, and both display
similarities in their app stores. However, the systems of apps for both types of phone are almost
entirely different. For example, the apps on the iPhone are of higher quality than that of the Android,
and there is a much greater selection. However, Android phones allow users to download
applications from third party sources, and the Android app store is much

that the car is a family car and is aimed at married women mainly but can also be used by a family
man to drive to and from work. The slogan for the advert "shrugs of life's little challenges" is related
to the pictures for example the child's muddy Wellington boot. The donut would represent the father
who is hungry on the way home or to work, the shopping trolley would represent that the car is
useful for a family shopping spree. The advert also uses the word 'Bump' which is saying that even
if a heavy load is in the car it can still go over speed bumps. I like the way the advert creates an
image of characters in the readers mind, although you cannot see a physical person (image) but the
pictures imply their existence. For example, like when I saw the picture of the Wellingtons, an
image of a little boy was the first thing I thought of. The advert tells stories of different family lives
because each picture relates to many things in everyday life. I wouldn't buy this car because it's
Rover, and I don't like rovers I don't think they are good quality cars. However the way this car is
designed is nice, it is an attractive car and I wouldn't mind driving it. I appreciate this

Comparison And Contrast Of Art
Comparison and Contrast of Art
Art is able to transport its viewer through time and connect us as a community. Audiences are able
to infer the content and context of the artwork. Art displayed through different mediums and about
different topics can share many similarities and draw connections between one another. Exodus,
created by Shelby Lechman (2015), uses oil paint on canvas to depict a young boy and father in a
train car, leaving their home in Hungary during the time of the Hungarian Revolution (fig.1). Back
into the Earth: Creation and the Interpretation of Meaning, created by Tamara Himmelspach (2015)
is a series of 11 prints and a physical dress displaying the designer in a jingle dress representing the
traditions of the Ojibwa culture

However, further connection in context and content can be developed when analyzing the
connection of the works roots and art in history. Exodus exhibits the reality of human suffering as a
result of war and oppression during the Hungarian Revolution. The historical relevance of this work
dives into a deeper significance than its basic face value. The oppression and struggle for power
signified in Exodus also translates into Figure 2. Both cultures, in their own time have faced their
traditions and way of life being threatened. As Hungarian citizens are forced to leave their country,
Ojibwa members were constantly threatened by European immigrants. The human experience is key
in understanding and studying art. Besides the main styles and usage in appearance, the connection
to a point in time and the influence of that time allows the audience to connect with the artist and the
characteristics of the artwork. Audiences are able to connect past themes to present day issues, such
as the difficulties facing many Syrian refugees and the numerous Native American women who have
gone missing. The importance of home and culture is evident in both works despite their different
purposes and artistic modes. Limits are explored and barriers of past, present are future are removed
when audiences are able to interpret the work from any point in time and understand the significance
of its visual and non–visual means.

Fiction Essay
The first of the two stories I chose to compare and contrast is titled "The Lottery" by Shirley
Jackson and the second story is titled "The Rocking–
Horse Winner" by D.H. Lawrence. I will
compare each of their themes, characters, and plot developments in which they are both similar and
different. One of the strongest comparison would be that both stories deal with the subject of luck in
one sense or another. The Lottery being considered a game of chance in which luck plays an
important factor in being the chosen winner but Luck in the Lottery has a different twist of fate
because the winner of the Lottery is actually the

Looking at both stories, the Lottery appears to be a means of how the town remain at a low
population and that the Lottery was a way of controlling that population. The Rocking–Horse
Winner on the other hand uses gambling as an alternative to making money and that money is
earned by being lucky and that you had to have an imagination in order to possess this luck. The
Lottery focused its story around an ancient black wooden box that held the Lottery choices within it
and the Rocking–Horse Winner was focused upon an old style Rocking Horse that was often used
by children long ago and something that is not used today that often. Both endings of each story
were odd enough whereas in the Lottery, the death of another person came as a ritual that was
expected to happen so very often and in the Rocking–Horse Winner, Master Paul, the woman's son
sought the approval of his Mother concerning his having luck. The boy died that night and the
Mother had not acknowledged that she knew that her son was lucky even though she was eighty –
odd thousand to the good. Very odd turn of events in both stories and both had unusual endings in
which there seems to be that type of contrast. Not that they were similar in story form but that they
both ended in sadness. Of the two stories, I would choose the Rocking–Horse Winner as the favorite
of the two due to the fact that the Lottery goes against the belief that I

Essay On Electronic Charting
Electronic Medical records vs. Paper Medical Charts By: Diedre Fitzgerald Rasmussen College
Summer 2012 English Composition; Professor Pauley Electronic Medical records vs. Paper Medical
Charts It is no secret that the medical profession deals with some of population's most valuable
records; their health information. Not so long ago there was only one method of keeping medical
records and this was utilizing paper charts. These charts, although still used in many practices today,
have slowly been replaced by a more advanced method; electronic medical records or EMR's. "The
manner in which information is currently employed in healthcare is highly inefficient, which slows
down communication and can, as a result, reduce the emergence and

Just as with paper medical charts, security of the information is an issue to a lot of people and in its
own way EMR's take precaution in keeping people out of the charts that should not be there. Almost
all EMR programs are equipped with password protection. Although EMR's may be taking over the
medical world, paper medical charts remain the most well recognized form for keeping medical
records. There are however some things within paper charts that some medical personnel might
argue make it a primitive aspect of the medical field. One argument in itself is that the abundance of
paper that is utilized in paper charting doesn't stand up to the "green" society we aspire to live in
today. "Paper charting used to take so long, the papers would always get unorganized, they took up
so much room in the nurses' station and the worst was waiting for a doctor to finish with a chart so I
could chart what I needed to" (Brittney Guggino LPN, 2012). Another acknowledged concern with
paper medical charts is the illegible handwriting of clinicians, which is a common, longstanding
problem. Being unable to read orders clearly creates an added risk when dealing with patients
treatments, medications etc. Paper charts may be familiar but they come with many downfalls and
it's these downfalls which may sway a person's decision in the opposite direction in regards to the
