1 Self-Reflection and my journey to Palm Beach State College Student Name Institution Affiliation

2 As I embarked my journey to Palm Beach State College, factors that made me work so hard to join a tertiary institution were vivid in my head. Joining Palm Beach State was my dream since I knew it was the perfect platform to make my nursing aspirations come to fruition. As an aspirant of nurturing lives, I yearn to be a nurse and I am convinced that this college will aid my cause. The fact that I grew up in a family that did not pursue higher education and this has weighed heavily on my mind, as I am aware that continuing to ignore this trend could result in an ongoing cycle. My parents' struggles due to their lack of higher education have shown me firsthand the negative impacts that can arise. My determination is to pave a way for my future generations especially to my own children and inspire them to strive for excellence in their studies. Nursing was my calling since I was a child. It's been a fundamental aspiration of mine that has become second nature. This is what has spurred me on to leave a meaningful mark on the world by helping others. At early age I saw the need to get a compassionate and comfort care which I saw many patients lacking. The other reason why I wanted to come to Palm Beach state college and pursue nursing is since I know it’s a stable and rewarding career. The moment am out of the college and I get a job I know I will be in a position to give my children the best life which I never got. It is also my passion to be in a position to make meaningful differences in the lives of the patients. When they come feeling sick, they will go home happy and healed. Before I decided to come to Palm Beach state college and to pursue nursing, I researched about the program and I saw it is one of the best schools offering the course. I also consulted some other nurses in the region and they gave me good recommendation and that’s how I settled

3 for the college. It is also very affordable and accessible which made me to be very content about taking the course here. Am confident that I am in the right place. During my journey to school, I set very high standards which was to excel in my academics. However, I understand that for this standards to become a reality, there are things which I need to have which includes discipline, dedication and good time management. When it comes to time management I already have a time schedule which I believe it will be helpful to me to be able to strike a balance between my family and school work. I know this is a new challenge and new thing which am not use to and therefore am open to seek support whenever necessary. This can either be through friends or mentors. My background generally has shaped my education life and how I view education in general. This is because it has taught me to appreciate many opportunities which higher education presents to individuals. Therefore am really looking forward to passing my academic work and later getting my dream job which will change my life. My background has also made me o be driven not only by my own responsibility but for my children as well. When I excel in my academics, I will be their model since am hoping that they will be able to learn in higher institutions as well. I have also learnt the importance of persevering when it comes to dream achievement. Am hoping my stay here in the institution will be an awesome one and looking forward to making life-time friends.
