I think implementation of EBP is imperative to a successful practice. As a future NP, I aspire to integrate EBP with every patient. During our area of interest assignment, we learned about EBP and engaging in EBP projects and inquiry. Utilizing evidence-based practice allows practitioners to stay current in their practice and implement proven strategies to achieve best patient outcomes. In our readings we learned about scholarship and that engaging in scholarship promotes professional development. I could see myself either engaging in a research study or being a nurse educator. Personally, I am fascinated by research, and I like the systematic gathering of data and interpreting it. I also really enjoy education, although I think this is something I will get more involved with later on in my practice. In order to be an effective educator, I believe you have to have significant real-world experience, and since I am early on in
nursing, I do not have this. Barriers to implementing evidence-based practice could be time constraints with each patient interaction. We've learned about how task-oriented nursing and advanced practice nursing can be, and if we engage in task-oriented nursing I think we lack the ability to implement EBP.
