Clinical Reflection and Feedback
1.
Areas Improved- Over the past week, I have improved in the following areas:
a.
Relation-based care: I feel that I have become confident when it comes to bedside manner. Bedside manner is one of the most important tools in a nursing career and one that can have the biggest impact on patient and family experience (Caywood, 2022). This care improves safety, patient satisfaction, and quality of work by improving relationships (Caywood, 2022).
b.
Eager to learn: Clinicals has been a great way for me to learn, hands on. Even if it was just going through my patients’ chart on my down time. I was learning to navigate EPIC. I was wanting to participate in my patient’s care. If I saw something in my patients’ chart, I wasn’t sure of, I would research it.
This has been a great learning experience for me. c.
Time management: I feel like I am always improving in this area and I feel it is very important in the nursing profession. The time wasted by nurses or student nurses, is the time not spent with the patient and it has a negative effect on the quality of care given to the patients (Ghiasvand, et al, 2017). 2.
Areas for Growth- What are three areas identified to develop during your clinical rotation this week?
a.
Critical thinking: Being a successful nursing student requires the ability to observe, think critically, and make the right decision best to my knowledge (Caywood, 2022).
b.
Confidence: Although I am continuing to learn through school and clinical, it
is very easy to second guess my decisions. I need confidence and assurance that what I am learning in school is allowing me to make crucial decisions in the clinical setting. c.
Measuring how I handle pressure: Health care work can be stressful and high-pressure situations, but must remain calm and be able to complete these
duties. Being able to prioritize my time and focus on my 2 patients is my goal for this 3
rd
week of clinical. 3.
Individual Goals for Next Week- List two measurable goals for the week to address the targeted areas of future growth, including two specific actions that will be taken to attain this goal.
a.
Goal 1:
1. Evaluating my self-awareness: Assessing my own strengths and weakness is important for me to receive feedback, applying criticism, and improving as
a nursing student.
2. Ability to be able to reflect on my own work performance.
b.
Goal 2:
1. Ensuring my weakness will not affect patient care: Providing safe and proper care to patients is the responsibility as a nurse and student nurse. It is
important to ensure my areas of improvement will not compromise the safety
of my patients.
2. Ability to work harder and ask questions for the areas of improvement. If I am unsure ask for my instructor’s assistance, take advice and feedback appropriately and apply it to safely care for my patients. 4.
Feedback for my clinical Instructor- Identify beneficial ways your clinical instructor has facilitated your learning and what changes could be made in communication to support an optimal clinical environment.
a.
I am here to learn and remembering that I do not know everything. Constructive criticism is great, but in ways that do not intimidate me.
b.
Asking me questions about my patient care to make sure I am able to critical think about the plan of care and what is happening with my patient.
c.
When asking questions that I do not know the answer too, I find that it is beneficial to me when directed in the right direction towards the answer instead of just being told the answer. 5.
Things that will facilitate my learning

CASE ANALYSIS: Nurses, as Health Care Professionals are faced with many issues and dilemma in their day-to-day practice especially when dealing with their patients. To address these issues, Nurses should provide services that will positively affect patient care, management and treatment. For Nurses, CARING is the Core of Nursing, and for many occasions, Nurses have to deal with this query: “How do I make a difference in my patient's life and suffering?”.Suppose, you are a new staff Nurse in a HomecareHospice Institution and then one day, you received this patient: A70-year-old male patient, disoriented and who looks older than his stated age. He appears generally weak, undernourished, not well-kempt and not well-groomed. His skin is dry with significant rashes. Vital signs checked and recorded, all vitals were abnormal associated with difficulty of breathing. Also, the patient is seen with limited body movements and with episodes of involuntary muscle control especially when standing.…

As a nurse, ensuring proper identification of your clients is a top priority safety issue. QSEN and the National Patient Safety goals put client identification high on the list of safety precautions. Using appropriate strategies, such as evidence-based tools and checklists, can add to the value of measurement of certain client conditions that will lead to quality care. Nurses play a role as a change agent when necessary, to improve nursing outcomes and increase job satisfaction.
Mention 7 examples of safety issues, using checklists, and being an agent for change?
