The type of summer camp that I would create would be an indoor/outdoor camp. We would have
cabins in a wooded area for campers to sleep in. We would also have a main building for
different activities and for campers that need more indoor accommodation but can still have the
experience of being included in outdoor camping activities. This program would provide youth
of different backgrounds and needs to be able to be included in the camping experience. This
program would prioritize and appropriately resource diversity, equity, and inclusion to increase
the reach, relevance, and equitable access to camp experiences. We would also focus on the
evolution of our advocacy and continuously identify data, bias, and cultural barriers that will
impact and change our strategy for achieving the desired outcomes.
Identifying and including diversity and equity is very important because 28-30 percent of day
and overnight campers are campers of color, (

, 2023). An activity that we would offer specifically to create inclusivity is a cooking
activity. The camp would provide many different kinds of food and we would let the youth
campers create and share their favorite snacks. Cooking/creating food from different cultures is
an incredible, tactile experience where campers will learn about different spices, ingredients and
