Consult Case Study 6.2, "Preventive Services at Greenwood Family Medicine," in Chapter 6 in the textbook. What did you immediately notice about the dynamics of the team? Who had the most authority? Why was this team ineffective in accomplishing its goals? What could the team members have done differently to collaborate more effectively? Good Evening- I believe it is very important to recognize that leadership is any type of office is important whether it be a small office setting or large, the leadership within the office will ultimately govern the way the office runs. “Effective leadership is integral to quality healthcare. If a healthcare team is uncoordinated or unfocused, patients often pay the price. Great leaders facilitate communication, boost productivity, and put others first. This ability is critical to quality patient care since healthcare often requires a rapid response to issues that arise. In such situations, communication and efficiency are vital” (Boyles, 2023). In this case study “Preventive Service at Greenwood Family Medicine” you can see right away the lack of leadership within the clinic itself. The team lacks effective leadership as there is a lack of a clear leader who can facilitate the decision- making process and ensure that projects and the process of the projects are getting completed. The lack of this individual has made it difficult for anything to get done and has put “dents” in the progress of what the team has been wanting to do. “The first meeting was scheduled over the noon hour (12:00 PM to 1:00 PM). One physician arrived at 12:20, while another had to leave early, at 12:45. Virtually the entire meeting was spent attempting to find an appropriate date and time for follow-up meetings” (Johnson & Sollecito, 2020). This is made apparent has there is no sense of time, and everyone comes and goes as they please and do not respect the times set to meet. There is poor communication, lack of roles, lack of training and support and some resistance to change as the physicians decide to eliminate current working processes. If the team expects to work and make effective and efficient decisions, they must first learn to work together and designate a team leader and team roles. They will need to ensure the roles and responsibilities are defined with clear communication and the correct training and
support in order to get the job done. They must learn to work together proactively and address the issues promptly and implement the changes together. If they work together, they can really turn around and make their clinic work to ensure they offer the services necessary for their patients and the quality of their clinic. Boyles, M.
