Kesara Wein Supplemental Exercise #3 ***I did each citation style in the AMA style, because I will use them as a doctor, and that is the style of our field. For the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health Disorders 5th Edition, I included the APA citation as well, since psychology is a major field that this book is used in. Nature Journal Citation (I referenced the canvas page for how to do this citation): Nature. John Maddox, Magdalena Skipper. 614. 1869-2023. London, England: Nature Portfolio, Springer Nature. This journal has included ground-breaking, peer-reviewed research since 1869. The journal houses papers in science and technology and is helpful for physician researchers, or medical students doing research, trying to design new projects or seeking inspiration. Personally, I refer to many papers within this journal for reputable data when designing a project, evaluating data, or trying to learn a new topic. American Medical Association Newsletter Citation (AMA style): Publications & Newsletters . American Medical Association. https://www.ama- assn.org/about/publications-newsletters. Accessed February 27, 2023. This weekly newsletter includes updates in the world of medicine. It is useful to those in the health care and science fields as it focuses on new research and breakthroughs, keeping medical students, residents, and practicing physicians updated. This helps these practitioners give the most informed and relevant care possible. It often refers to important and exciting new research papers from the American Medical Association’s own journals. Netter’s Atlas of Human Anatomy (Physical textbook) Citation (AMA style): Netter, F. H. Atlas of human anatomy. Seventh edition. Philadelphia, PA: Elsevier; 2019. Written in 1965, Netter’s Atlas is widely seen as the most reputable textbook for generations of medical students, residents, and even practicing doctors to use. As such, it is extremely useful for those in the medical field while studying in medical school and as a reference to look back on while practicing. It is well known for its detailed illustrations of the human body and current physicians I’ve spoken to testify to this book as a resource they still use to re-learn specific anatomy for specific cases.
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health Disorders (Physical Handbook) Citation (APA Style): American Psychiatric Association. (2013). Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health Disorders 5th Edition. American Psychiatric Publishing. Citation (AMA Style): American Psychiatric Association. Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health Disorders 5th Edition. Washington DC: American Psychiatric Publishing; 2013. The DSM is the original catalog of mental health disorders that psychologists and psychiatrists still use as a reference to diagnose disorders or design research. Along with being a reference for diagnosis, this manual is also useful for physicians for medical coding and billing. This manual is constantly updated with multiple versions, reflecting the current labeling of disorders, development of new ones, and appropriate terminology of the time. Overall, it features the most up-to-date diagnoses which all health care professionals may reference, but especially those in psychology, psychiatry, or neurology. PubMed Citation (AMA Style): National Center for Biotechnology Information. PubMed [database]. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/. Accessed February 27, 2023. PubMed is a database where those from doctors to scientists can search thousands of journal article abstracts to find relevant research on an issue they may be working on. It is a very reputable source, operated by the National Library of Medicine and NCBI which are both governmental organizations. It is a useful reference in the field of medicine as physicians can use the database to answer their medical questions with new research or learn about new medical techniques.
