Civic and Social Responsibility Paper
Understanding how to plan a community needs assessment is critical as a project
manager for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. First, a WBS or work breakdown
structure will need to be put together. This allows project managers to be efficient. The lists of
processes can be stated in a variety of ways but evidence is needed to explain why that
information is important. This paper will explain why some of these work packages are crucial to
the project.
According to Investopedia demographic data is defined as “
Demographic data refers to
socioeconomic information expressed statistically, including employment, education, income,
marriage rates, birth and death rates, and more.” (Hayes, 2021). Demographic data is commonly
used for needs assessments. Other tools that can be used to determine needs are economic, social,
and environmental factors. In the health field, social and economic factors are crucial in
determining the needs of a community. County Health Rankings and Road Maps claims, “These
factors affect our ability to make healthy choices, afford medical care and housing, manage
stress, and more.” (County Health, 2021). For example, looking at the unemployment rate in a
community will determine the health as well because lower-income families are unable to afford
the food to keep their children healthy due to the cost of nutritious food. This is why economic,
social, and environmental factors are crucial to assessing the needs of a community.
Moira Alexander states “The most diverse teams are more likely to outperform less
diverse teams, according to findings by McKinsey.” (Alexander, 2021). Having a diverse team
will bring up productivity on the team. Alexander also states “88% of project professionals say
having diverse project teams increases value.” (Alexander, 2021). This article proves that having
a diverse team will increase the productivity and value of the team.

One aspect that I would first view to make my project team diverse would be having an
even or close to even number of males and females in my team. This would allow both genders’
voices to be heard. Harvard Business Review performed a study and concluded tha
t “In a study
of 1,069 leading firms across 35 countries and 24 industries, we found that gender diversity
relates to more productive companies, as measured by market value and revenue,
only
in
contexts where gender diversity is viewed as “normatively” accepted.” (Turban, 2019). Having a
mixed-gender team will increase the productivity of the team. The next factor that I would take
into consideration is having a mix of different races and ethnicities. Because we live in such a
diverse society, having people of different colors or cultures is crucial, and embracing diversity
could be a huge benefit. Third, I would want team members with different educations and job
experience in different companies. I believe that this would aid in productivity because each
team member has such a different experience than putting the knowledge together would allow
problems to be solved quickly. Lastly, I believe that having people of different ages in the team
would be beneficial. This would allow the different generations to put together their knowledge
to solve problems and bring in different aspects of life.
Creating a stakeholder communication plan is another factor that can make or break your
project. Stakeholder Map claims
, “A stakeholder is anybody who can affect or is affected by an
organization, strategy or project. They can be internal or external and they can be at senior or
junior levels.” (Stakeholder Map, 2014). Having multiple stakeholders means having a variety of
interests, attitudes, and ideas. Keeping clear communication will inform them of information that
is relevant to their needs and will leave a great impression of your organization or project in their
minds. Having good communication with stakeholders will ultimately bring in more revenue and
have a successful project because they will be satisfied with the company.

There are a plethora of tools and methods that are used for gathering data. Two of the
most common are interviews and surveys. The pros of face-to-face interviewing a
re providing
flexibility to the interviewers, The interviewer can judge the non-verbal behavior of the
respondent, and interviewing has a better response rate than mailed questions. (Sociology Group,
2019). Overall, interviewing allows a clearer answer to the questions than data collection that is
not face-to-face. The disadvantages of interviewing are unconscious mistakes, which mostly
occur when the respondent has socially undesirable traits that he does not want to accept and,
deliberate lying because the respondent does not want to give a socially undesirable answer
(Sociology Group, 2019). The success of the interview often relates to how cooperative the
correspondent is.
The next method for collecting data are surveys. There are many different forms of
survey methods but the one highlighted in this paper will be electronic surveys. The advantages
of electronic surveys are the large target audience that they are able to reach and the quick data
compilation that surveys are able to achieve through internet software. (Jones, 2013). Online
surveys are a very efficient way to gather and compile data from a large number of people. The
disadvantages of online surveys are getting a low response rate and the fact that not all subjects
can access the survey. (Jones, 2013). The success of the survey for data collection heavily relies
on the willingness of the respondents to answer the questions and the accessibility they have to
the technology.
Ultimately, Leadership required more information regarding why these procedures are
included in a job breakdown structure. All of these factors are crucial since they will have a
significant impact on not just your project team, but also how smoothly the process for getting
your outcomes goes. Using social, economic, and environmental aspects, as well as having a
