The Problem Of Becoming Pharmacist
Since I can remember I always wanted to excel in medical field. However, there was a period of
time in my life when I thought that I could be a journalist. For this reason, I attended humanities
major in high school. I realized very quickly that I was fascinated more by science subjects rather
than humanities. I came to Chicago in 2006 with an idea of pursuing medical career. I knew it would
be much harder for me because of the language barrier; nevertheless I was ready to face the
challenge.
The idea of becoming pharmacist arose when I attended one of the health career panels. I was
exposed to variety of health professions that directly impact patients and provide health care to
others. Pharmacy was the field that got my attention immediately. I was impressed with diverse
career options available to students. In current times, there are many people without a health
insurance. Pharmacist is the first health care provider patients seek help from before they will see a
specialist. I could play important role in health care system by interacting with elderly patients on a
regular basis, helping to educate them about their medications. In addition, I realized that as a
bilingual pharmacist I could reach out to polish speaking patients.
When I started working as a Pharmacy technician there were only few polish customers in my
pharmacy. Now after 3 years, I can say that we have at least 40% polish speaking customers. They
are coming to our pharmacy because they know there is

I feel that Pharmacy is a challenging yet rewarding career that makes a positive impact on the lives
of individuals. My A–levels have provided me with a range of useful skills that I will be able to
apply within a Pharmacy degree.
Studying A–level Chemistry has improved my ability to carry out safe lab practices, accurate and
reliable tests and data analysis by conducting practicals. I have studied various organic and
inorganic aspects in this course and was fascinated by the chirality in the pharmaceutical synthesis –
the stereochemistry of the molecule can affect how a drug affects people. Drug development
produces different optical isomers in body and has specific effects; which I will be studying in detail
in the context of pharmacology. Biology has given me additional knowledge about the causes of
diseases; particularly how the body reacts to certain diseases and the mechanism of antibiotics on
inhibiting or killing the growth of microorganisms. I find it intriguing that the right dosage is
required for optimally effective treatment and that overuse can cause antibiotic resistance
. I would
like study pharmacokinetics and what biological factors specific to the patient affect the dosage
needs to be given; if the kidneys are not working well they need to reduce the dosage or the
concentration of drug

Part of my programme was to raise money for charity as a team through successfully organising
various events. This developed my time management and organisational skills. At the end of the
course I gave a speech to a large audience about the programme's success. This boosted my
confidence in public speaking and I now feel able to give high quality presentations. In my spare
time I participate in and help to choreograph local community dance performances. This has made
me more responsible and developed my leadership

Pharmacy Personal Statement
My interest in pharmacy began at an early age. Growing up, both of my parents had numerous
health issues requiring medication. My mother was diagnosed with type I diabetes during her
pregnancy. Relying on insulin numerous times per day, I grew up helping her dose and even
administer insulin. Quickly I began to respect medication and appreciate its importance. She later
developed other autoimmune processes including thyroid and celiac disease. I realized then, that
patient education was another important role of pharmacists; taking the time to explain when she
should take her medications as well as the ingredients within each medication. My father also had
his share of health concerns including cardiac disease, and has required cardiac

I struggled with learning how to study, balancing work and school, and wondering if I was too old. I
finished the summer but did not return. In 2011 I decided to enroll in technical school thinking it
may be a better option for a non–traditional student with only physical labor experience. My hard
work, dedication, perseverance and determination helped me transition into a full time student while
continuing to work full time. I graduated in December 2014 with an Associate Degree in Industrial
Systems Technology. This accomplishment only inspired and motivated me to continue which is
why I enrolled in the pre–
pharmacy program in the fall of 2015.
My genuine desire to help others the way my parents have been helped is why I am applying to the
Doctor of Pharmacy Program. I have no doubt this is my field. I believe pharmacists are a crucial,
integral part of a patient's medical well being. Becoming a part of the amazing world of healing,
care and cure does not come without tragedy and even death. While understanding these challenges,
I never want to get used to tragedy and

Characteristics Of A Pharmacy Setting
During this week, I have gained a lot of knowledge about the basic fundamental aspects of the
institutional pharmacy setting. Prior to taking this course, I did not know as much about the hospital
pharmacy setting because I only worked at a community setting. On the first day of class, Dr. Azab
taught us how to connect the dots and learning the different traits involved in information
transferring. I believe that it was very helpful and beneficial in learning the significant qualities that
a pharmacist must have in order to effectively help others and patients in the best way possible. As a
pharmacist, you have tremendous roles to contribute in the hospital setting, varying on what
interests you the most. In order to be a good pharmacist, you have to acquire and master important
attributes so that you can make an overall positive impact on the field. Intelligence is the capability
to learn and understand different things and being able to cope and deal with new circumstances and
difficult situations that can occur throughout life. As humans, we should always try to become the
greatest and to meet high goals in life and not be mediocre. There are common factors that are
involved in determining intelligence in which we discussed during class it includes the following:
intellectual quotient, emotional quotient and spiritual intelligence. As a pharmacist, it is good to
apply these traits, these traits will deliver the finest leadership in any setting. Throughout the

Reflection On Ownership In Pharmacy
Reflection At the first glance to ownership in pharmacy subject, I realized that it's a huge experience
to have. Many thoughts had popped up to my mind with many questions. What is the best idea for
me to start with? Where should I start? What knowledge do I need to have? How will I finance my
project? Is it possible to start my ownership project now or should I wait? By reading more and
more about ownership in pharmacy through this course, I came up with a good vision on the subject.
I knew that there are many types of ownerships in pharmacy such as independent pharmacy,
specialty pharmacy, MTM services, consulting pharmacy, and more. Then, I have read about being
successful, and what I need, to be successful at ownership. Hence, gaining more skills, such as
management
, innovation, motivation, and commitment will help me in my career plan. Because
ownership needs more patience and more support, only hard workers are capable to succeed at
ownership. After that, I have read about how to start a new business, and I knew that it's very
important to get an expert advice. It doesn't matter how much experience I have in pharmacy,
because I still need an expert advice. More simply, there are other sides of ownership that I don't
know such as laws and regulations, or things related to accounting. Definitely, I will need an advice
from a lawyer and accountant. I may need also to ask a consultancy services company to cooperate
with me. Finding,

Students will need at least two years in college before they can be accepted into a pharmacy
program, but most students have three. The first two to three years of the program includes courses
in anatomy, biology, chemistry, math, physics, and physiology. The next portion of the program
must be taken at a pharmacy college, where the student will study natural drugs (pharmacognosy),
synthetic drugs (medicinal chemistry), pharmacology, and pharmaceutics. They will also learn about
the administrative, social, psychological, and professional characteristics of being a pharmacy
technician.
In order to become a pharmacy technician, you must complete an internship under a licensed
pharmacist and also pass a qualifying exam. Internships normally last one year, but shorter
internships under the supervision of a school of pharmacy may also be recognized. The final exam
(given by a board of pharmacy) takes three days to complete. It includes theoretical questions on
pharmacy disciplines and also a practical exam. Four schools in Ontario that offer a pharmacy

Pharmacy : My Future Career
My overall goal for my life is simply to serve and care for other people. I selected pharmacy as my
future career because I had an interest in science, and I also felt that it would give me the
opportunities I desired to serve. Before I selected pharmacy, I decided that I wanted to enter the
health care field during my junior year of high school when I found out that my grandmother had
cancer and only a few more months to live. She had hospice nurses taking care of her at home, but
my mother and I went to her house every day after work and school to help take care of her. It was
difficult to ensure that she was happy and taken care of while completing all of my schoolwork at a
brand new school, but I worked through it by keeping a planner and creating daily schedules for
myself. In these months, I concluded that I wanted to attend professional school to become part of
the health care team so that I could have the opportunity to help and love more people in tough
situations like the one I was in. I chose pharmacy specifically because a pharmacist
's role in health
care is both extremely important and interesting. I volunteered as a pharmacy technician this past
summer and I admired the relationship that the pharmacist was able to have with the patients, as
well as the wide variety of patients that they had the opportunity to serve. Pharmacy also offers a
variety of career options that go beyond retail and clinical, and this would allow me to be flexible in
my career choice.

Why I Chose The Profession Of Pharmacy Essay
"Nothing is so dangerous to the progress of the human mind than to assume that our views of
science are ultimate, that there are no mysteries in nature, that our triumphs are complete and that
there are no new worlds to conquer."– Humphry Davy (1778–1229), British chemist and inventor.
This quote sums up my desire to pursue a degree in pharmacy
. My interest is in finding ways to
improve the field of pharmacy by thinking in a way that makes it possible to look at every unknown
in medicines and find a way to produce an answer. I chose the profession of pharmacy for many
reasons, a Doctor of Pharmacy degree is a step towards reaching my goals, and my background is a
large part of me achieving my goals.
I chose the profession of pharmacy for personal reasons. My mother is a pharmacist in an
independent pharmacy. As a child, I went to work with her and saw what she did daily. I began to
like going to work with her and watch her check prescriptions, along with many other things. Even
when she was out of the pharmacy, she would see customers in public and it was nice to see her say
hello t these people I did not even know. I could tell the pharmacy had its own small town feel,
where everyone knew each other. I liked the idea of that. Also, as I got further along in school, I had
an interest in science and math. I realized how much I liked classes like chemistry lab. Being able to
watch reactions was very interesting to me. Along with my sparked interest as a child and in school,

As a person with keen interest and enthusiasm towards the field of Doctor of Pharmacy, fascinated
by the innovations and discoveries in this field, I have always wanted to participate in the march
towards excellence in the field of science and be a cog, albeit small, significant in the wheel of
scientific evolution. I choose to major in this Field with an intense urge to delve deeper into this
challenging field.
The predilection I had towards the subject of Biology has led me to pursue Doctor of
Pharmacy
. Graduation Program has been a period of self–development and self–realization where
I enjoyed my study in Doctor of Pharmacy, Mallareddy College of Pharmacy (Osmania
University), as it gave me an opportunity to interact with a strong faculty and students of high
caliber. Interaction and organization of different awareness programs during the period of internship
made me to interact and counsel people to protect and promote health, and prevent disease and
injury. I was fascinated by the meticulous efforts that address the physical, mental and
environmental health concerns of communities and populations, and was galvanized to learn more
about it. This has entrenched my passion of making a career in the field of Public Health.

A Career as a Pharmacist Essay
The flow of the medical community is dependent on every person employed there. The harmony it
creates does not only come from the doctors or nurses, but the janitors, surgeons, receptionists, and
even the pharmacists. Each job is necessary in order for the hospitals to function properly; for
instance, the doctors diagnose the patient with their illness, prescribe them medication to cure it, and
send them to the pharmacist
, who then gives them their medication and sends them home. However,
some jobs are overlooked more than others and do not receive the proper credit, like the pharmacist.
Pharmacists are recognized for dispensing and sorting drugs, but their jobs help educate patients

This career goes unnoticed because many do not see the importance of it. Without this field, the
balance in the medical community would be disrupted due to patients not receiving their medication
to sustain their life. Although this career may seem easy, there are important characteristics one must
hold in order to be a successful pharmacist. The characteristics to become a pharmacist cannot be
learned in college, it must be emphasized throughout the adolescent years. Some important features
one needs to focus on are memorization, organization, being meticulous, and have a strong
understanding of math and science. In the article "Top Skills You Need to be a Pharmacist", the
author states, "Before the pharmacist fills the prescription, they need to remember everything they
learned [...]. Pharmacists must know about hundreds of drugs – from their generic and brand names
to their side effects and possible drug interactions" (Hart). Memorization is essential in order to be
successful in this industry and is difficult to do. The organization skills of a future pharmacist must
be top–notch because this field is based on it; medications need to be categorized by name, dosage
amount, and amount of pills. Paying close attention to details is necessary as well because if there is

Having professional etiquette is one of the most important factors that contribute to a successful
healthcare career. Professionalism within health care includes values to promote the good of every
patient in a compassionate, caring and respectful manner. In the article, "At the Pharmacy," Chekhov
instructs pharmacists as to what they should not do in regards to lack of empathy, attention, and
interaction towards the patient, which ultimately leads to the deterioration of the patient's health. In
fact, the pharmacist should be concerned about the patient's worries, and create an environment
where care, trust, and effective communication is used to address the patient's concerns, as well as
ensure the efficient delivery of prescriptions. The pharmaceutical practice has gone beyond the role
of medicine dispensary and has acquired a significant role in the field of healthcare itself.
Pharmacists are not only experts in medicine but unique among other professionals because of their
accessibility as healthcare providers. They are more involved in educating patients on the proper use
and consistency of medications, solving different problems and seeking new challenges day to day. I
enjoy helping people and want to become an advocate for improving the quality of life of my future
patients as a whole, which leads me to continue pursuing a career as a Pharmacist. It is also
worthwhile remembering Chekhov's assertion that, " Science and medicine may change over the

Reflective Essay On Pharmacy Experience
As I reflect on my experience of a pharmacy practice, I realize how much of my personality has
changed in only few months. The experiences I gained during my first rotation at Walgreens were
particularly rewarding, especially those gained while working as a team to achieve a common goal
of a patient's well–being. I did not have any previous experience in the pharmacy setting, therefore I
was determined to take advantage of this opportunity to grow and develop skills that are vital to be a
good pharmacist
. During the rotation, I performed many activities that were assigned by the
preceptor, learned new skills and competencies, identified my strengths and weaknesses, and made
plans for continued development throughout the journey of pharmacy practice. My primary goal of
getting a practical experience in pharmacy was to develop the knowledge and skills to actively
participate in patient care, improve self–confidence, approach any task with an open mind, and
having eagerness to learn what the rotation has to offer. I participated and attempted all the tasks that
were assigned by my preceptor throughout my rotation. A very first activity I learned to perform was
counting medications properly before pharmacists dispense them. While working on this task, I also
learned to change the manufacturing number and do the partials for medications. Although it seemed
like a very simple task, it requires attention, fast pace, and accuracy. Most of the errors in the
pharmacy occur due to incorrect medication, dosage strength, or dosage form while filling so it is
critical to pay attention to small details. Furthermore, my preceptors allowed me to perform
vaccinations from the very first day which helped me develop one–on–one interactions with patients
and improved my knowledge on administrating and recommending different vaccinations to
patients. Since pharmacists hold a great source of information on vaccinations and they are easily
accessible in neighborhood, pharmacists play a prominent role in prevention and safety of public
health. When I heard news of my preceptor's participation in flu clinic at the Village of Hanover
park, I offered him my help for several hours. After administrating vaccines continuously

Becoming a Pharmacist Essay examples
Putting together a puzzle is comparable to the road in becoming a pharmacist. It involves patience,
thinking from many different perspectives such as using trial and error to find the solution. As a
freshman in college, I was doubtful about what to major but suddenly one day, I witnessed my
mother's deteriorating health due to her suffering from high blood pressure. This made me feel pity
and if there was a way out of everything, I was willing to take that path to help her. During my visit
in Vietnam, I also encountered many close family members who were sick due to many types of
illnesses. Globally, people are affected everyday by new evolving illnesses such as the swine flu and
there are no cures for most of them. I understand that if

On certain occasions, my mother would lecture me about the success of being a pharmacist and the
help they provide many people with. The idea of becoming a pharmacist did not come to me
erratically. At times my mother would randomly faint, which caused our families to be very worried
about her illness. Her condition could have also led to unpredictable strokes, renal diseases, or
cardiac diseases. Witnessing all the trouble she went through everyday, I realized that becoming a
pharmacist was a way I can follow to help my mother. I know for a fact that the medication is a
major factor to keeping my mother strong and healthy. Today, I am thankful to see that her blood
pressure has been lowered due to the help of medications. It's very gratifying how crucial something
such as medicine can be to people. This greatly influenced upon my pursuit of a health related
career.
