2 My current field of work is a mix of telephony and technology, we are a very large company where most of our employees work remote or a hybrid office/remote workplace. While the degree that I am pursing is Cybersecurity, it can still play a large role within my current field of work. With these two factors I have chosen to select the increase of data breaches due to the increase of remote workers since the beginning of the pandemic. (Morris, n.d.) This is a topic that draws my interest on many plains, first I have been a victim of identity theft due to a data breach. Additionally, my company over the past 5 years has acquired a Cybersecurity company and has made it a priority for the company. And lastly since data breaches in my field of work are very common, we are working through one right not that impacted millions of customers. My initial thought on the topic is to first check the data and see how data breaches have changed since the beginning of the pandemic. Next, I want to look into what companies did before releasing employees from the need to come into the office, or if they did anything at all. From those companies that did implement some security practices, document what those were and create a best practices list from that. Comparing those companies that did implement security practices to the industry average of data breaches to see if they do indeed fall below the average. My desired result will be to create a recommended implementation of security practices before a company allows employees to work remotely. Working this backwards would bring me to my question of, “What steps can companies take to protect their and their customers data while the industry shifts from an in-office standard of work to one that incorporates remote workers?”.
