Running head: ENGLISH FINDINGS OF AI 1 Findings of Artificial Intelligence in English Christine Delgado William Paterson University Professor Fancera
Running head: ENGLISH FINDINGS OF AI 2 There is no doubt that in the world right now AI is being utilized in various ways. In English class learners have been using it to assist with generating essay examples, handwriting samples, and to hear audiobooks. Through this weeks readings and analysis I have seen numerous ways that it can be utilized in the areas of intervention and to utilize with direct instruction. Nini & Kong (2021) were studying the utilization of AI for direct reading instruction with Chinese reading students. The study was completed based on a book “ Small Racoon Reading” the AI simulated as a “real teacher” and listened to the child read the story aloud and asked comprehension based questions. One drawback that was observed was the AI reading did not pay enough attention to the individual students, and it lacks the guidance of teachers in traditional classrooms (Nini & Kong, 2021). It was found to be a greater benefit one on one and not as a whole group instructional method. One area as educators that we seem to still lack knowledge and expertise on how to detect is the area of dyslexia. Dyslexia is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by difficulties with acquiring reading skills, despite the presence of appropriate learning opportunities, sufficient education, and a suitable sociocultural content ( Alqahtani et al., 2023). The study that was conducted utilized AI based handwriting guided models to identify early signs of dyslexia. Lastly, the third article was an AI technique to help benefit the improvement of handwriting skills in the early grades and check for dysgraphia. The AI models helped to identify poor coordination, excessive muscle tension, and incorrect grip ( Villegas-Ch et. al., 2023).
