1.
Discuss which clotting factors the PT and PTT test evaluate and whether each test
measures the intrinsic or the extrinsic pathways.
The Prothrombin Time (PT) test evaluates the extrinsic pathway of hemostasis. It
assesses the time it takes for blood to clot. This test is useful in detecting bleeding
disorders or abnormalities in the blood clotting process. The Partial Thromboplastin Time
(PTT) test measures the time required for blood to clot. It provides valuable information
about potential bleeding issues or irregularities in the blood's ability to coagulate
effectively.
2.
Describe the common coagulation pathway.
The common coagulation pathway is the final stage in the clotting cascade where the
intrinsic and extrinsic pathways converge. This pathway ultimately leads to the formation
of a stable blood clot. The common coagulation pathway involves the conversion of
prothrombin to thrombin and fibrinogen to fibrin. Thrombin is an enzyme that cleaves
fibrinogen into fibrin, forming a mesh that traps blood cells and forms a clot.
3.
Based on Jessie's test, which factor deficiency do you believe he has and why?
Based on Jessie's test results, it appears that he has a deficiency in Factor VIII, an
essential clotting protein.
4.
Jessie's clotting factor disease is seen more often in males. Please explain why.
The reason for this is the gene's location on the X chromosome. In males, they receive
one X chromosome from their mother, whereas females inherit one X chromosome from
each parent.
5.
If both the PT and the PTT tests were abnormally long, which part of the coagulation
pathway would be affected?
Deficiencies in both the intrinsic and extrinsic pathways would be affected, indicating
potential deficiencies in both pathways.

There are two carotid arteries that feed blood to the brain, one on each side of the neck and head. One patient's carotid arteries are each 11.2 cm long
and have an inside diameter of 5.1 mm . Near the middle of the left artery, however, is a 2.0-cm-long stenosis, a section of the artery with a smaller
diameter of 3.3 mm .
Part A
For the same blood flow rate, what is the ratio of the pressure drop along the patient's left carotid artery to the drop along his right artery?

I asked bartleby to solve this question earlier, it gave me AI answer which is completely different to what's shown in this answer. I don't know which one is correct now. I have attached screenshots of the AI answer. Can you clarify which is correct. Also I previously asked about pv diagram and you said ' the curve in the explanation is correct', did you mean in your explanation or the one I showed as an example? Please advice
