Introduction During Assignment 07, we were required to use SolidWorks surfacing tools to create a similar car body of a 2015 ford Mustang GT – each part must be created from one of these helmets. You will need to spend a little time and figure out, get to know the following: ◦ The overall shape of the car from a 360° view ◦ Learn about the most important details – their size, location, shape, and transitions between body panels, all glass components and so forth ▪ All the geometry you create should be full size ▪ Download the compressed file named “2015 Ford Mustang GT.zip” ▪ Put that compressed file into your digital folder ← incredibly important ▪ Extract that compressed file and open the SolidWorks assembly named “2015 Ford Mustang GT.sldasm” ▪ Immediately rename that assembly “My A-07 Project, Winsor, Brad” ← use your last name & first name, not my last name & first name

Part 1 (Creating the base/frame of car using 3d sketches)  Using mostly 3d sketches, each sketch was mapped and traced on to each reference image to get the correct dimensions and style.

Part 2 (Applying loft/boundary to sketches)  Adding the loft and boundary features to the drawing gave the design depth and a realistic visual.

Part 3 (Using Split line)  In some cases, using the split line feature provided help with making designs. In terms of trim design, wind windshield design, taillight design. All parts were then knitted together to make one body.

Part 4 (Mirror)  The part was then mirrored to make a full car. Part 5 (Assembly)

 After finishing the Car, the wheels were added in an assembly making the model complete. Part 6 (Finished Part)

 As you can see after knitting all the parts and adding the wheels the car was then created, and this is the finished part.

Summary During the design process of the project, it was a little difficult to figure out how to go about doing this project whether it being 3d sketches or projecting curves it was still a hefty task. The projecting curves were not liable in terms of getting started with the project so going with the 3d sketch method was a better option. The project was a success, the only problem being that some reason I couldn’t get the driver and passenger window to show whether using the split line feature or even other features. I now have a better grasp of SolidWorks surfacing tools after doing this project. I practiced utilizing several surface modeling tools while watching instructional videos. Even though I am more assured of my skills, I still need to put more practice into my skills before I can utilize SolidWorks surfacing tools professionally or pass the CSWA-SU Exam.
