Pre-Laboratory Assignment 3 Question 1: In terms of kg, what is the maximum mass that may be used without damaging the load cell permanently? According to the specifications of the LC62SP-6KG model Single Point Load Cell, which has a full scale load of 6kg, the maximum overload of the system is 150% of the full scale load. MO = 1.5 * FS MO = 1.5 * 6kg MO = 9kg We can see from the equation above that the maximum mass that may be used without inflicting permanent damage to the system is 9kg. Question 2: For the load cell used in this lab, what would be the expected output error in the load cell measurement in terms of grams based on the full scale output? The combined error (E C ) of the LC62 model Single Point Load Cell is stated by the manufacturer as ±0.02%. Based on the full scale output, the expected output error (E O ) would be equal to: E O = E C * Mass Fullscale E O = E C * Mass Fullscale * 1000 (for output error in grams) E O = 0.0002 * 6 * 1000 E O = 1.2g We can see from the equation above that the expected output error in the load cell is equal to ±1.2g based on the full scale output of the system.
