Hi Harley,
Like you, I also enjoyed this week’s topic. I also enjoyed utilizing the 3M encoder for our assignment, which help me further understand APC codes or Ambulatory Payment Classifications. Another great resource that I investigated in 3M Coding References was Coders’ Desk Reference for Procedures by Optum. This reference has specific instructions and references that would benefit a same day surgery coder. This reference includes the following content:
CPT Book Conventions definition, the CPT book format definition, add on codes definition, appendixes definition, bilateral procedures definition, global surgery package definitions.
CPT modifiers 22-99 listed with definitions.
Evaluation and Management guidelines and the levels of E/M services defined.
Place of service codes for professional claims.
Alphabetic index of surgical and laboratory terms.
Illustrations of anatomical sites by body system.
CPT Lay Descriptions which help when coders need more details on patients charts or operative reports. The coder can select a code and it give documented descriptions of what that code represents. A same day surgery coder would benefit from using this reference during the coding workday. If a coder needed clarification on conventions, guidelines, modifiers, levels of E/M services, places of service codes, definitions of surgical procedures, check anatomical sites or help with operative reports or documentation confusion, this would be the resource to use. It is convenient and easy to access and has
many beneficial resources to use while applying CPT codes. What references in 3M have you found most beneficial for this course? How has the reference been beneficial for you? Best, Amanda Reference: 3M Coding Reference. (2023). Coders’ Desk Reference for Procedures by Optum. AHIMA VLabs.

The Weather Monitor. Your South American expedition splits into two groups: one that stays at home base, and yours that goes off to
set up a sensor that will monitor precipitation, temperature, and sunlight through the upcoming winter. The sensor must link up to a
central communications system at base camp that simultaneously uploads the data from numerous sensors to a satellite. In order to
set up and calibrate the sensor, you will have to communicate with base camp to give them specific location information.
Unfortunately, the group's communication and navigation equipment has dwindled to walkie-talkies and a compass due to a river-raft
mishap, which means your group must not exceed the range of the walkie-talkies (3.0 miles). However, you do have a laser rangefinder
to help you measure distances as you navigate with the compass. After a few hours of hiking, you find the perfect plateau on which to
mount the sensor. You have carefully mapped your path from base camp around lakes and…

An air conditioning unit uses Freon (R-22) to adapt an office room at temperature 25 oC in the summer, if the temperature of the evaporator is 16 oC and of the condenser is 48 oC. The reciprocating compressor is single acting, number of cylinders are 2, the volumetric efficiency is 0.9, number of revolutions are 900 r.p.m. and L\D= 1.25. If the compressor consumes a power of 3 kW and its mechanical efficiency is 0.9. Find the following:
(A) Flow rate of the refrigerant per…

You are a biomedical engineer working for a small orthopaedic firm that fabricates rectangular shaped fracture
fixation plates from titanium alloy (model = "Ti Fix-It") materials. A recent clinical report documents some problems with the plates
implanted into fractured limbs. Specifically, some plates have become permanently bent while patients are in rehab and doing partial
weight bearing activities.
Your boss asks you to review the technical report that was generated by the previous test engineer (whose job you now have!) and used to
verify the design. The brief report states the following... "Ti Fix-It plates were manufactured from Ti-6Al-4V (grade 5) and machined into
solid 150 mm long beams with a 4 mm thick and 15 mm wide cross section. Each Ti Fix-It plate was loaded in equilibrium in a 4-point bending
test (set-up configuration is provided in drawing below), with an applied load of 1000N. The maximum stress in this set-up was less than the
yield stress for the Ti-6Al-4V…
