Intervention Plan:
The tiered intervention model is designed to provide a framework for effective teaching and learning. It features three main components: identification of the applicable intervention, explicit teaching, and visual illustrations.
Grade level: 2
nd
Activity implementing 1-2 intervention strategies: Building number chart using magnets and other manipulatives.
Materials: Number Magnets, cubes/blocks, Number chart When I collaborated with my mentor teacher to develop an intervention plan for mathematics, she noted that it was one of the core subjects in which effective and good interventions are needed. One of the interventions that I and the teacher discussed was ensuring that explicit instruction is provided to all of our students. This can be done in a small group setting if only some students require this type of instruction. One of the most important interventions that a teacher can make in order to support the visual learner is by having visuals that represent the various topics being taught in the classroom. This type of intervention will help the student grasp the material. In addition to a small group setting, the last intervention that we discussed also utilized different addition and subtraction strategies to connect the various math problems to the real world. This method will help the students develop new mathematical concepts. After implementing the plan and working with my mentor teacher, the students in small group were able to provide the necessary support to help those who were struggling. One of the most effective
interventions that the students were able to receive was the use of real-world storytelling strategies. Through this method, they were able to see the various aspects of the problems that we were going through. It allowed them to go through the questions in a different way and develop new mathematical concepts. In the future, I will make sure that I implement the interventions that my mentor teacher and I
discussed. It is important for me to understand that every student is different when it comes to learning math. In order to provide the necessary support to those who are struggling, I should also be able to understand their unique learning style.
