2 Cost and Benefit Analysis of Business Proposal My proposal for my project focuses on career progression opportunities, opportunities to advance education, and morale and team building through outside of work events. I have read in multiple articles that opportunities for career progression creates a creative environment and enhances quality of work in employees. Many people often get stagnant in their careers which causes a decline in work quality. Not only does it create creativity and competition, but it motivates the employee to show how well they can perform. Secondly, opportunities to advance one’s education is important to many, and they may work harder if there were scholarships offered by the company. Numerous people go through their adult lives without the opportunity to advance their education, a scholarship opportunity would help them personally and be a motivator in the workplace as well. The company could even branch it out to the employees’ family to add extra incentive to it. Often the workplace is all about work, and I for one can say that is not very motivating. If we add in activities even once a month for morale and team building the attitude within the workplace would change immediately. I can say on a personal note that I try to get my office together and do lunches, or activities outside of work so that we can build our cohesion as a team, and it seems to work. I see all too often that a team cannot work together cohesively but team building activities are proven to work. These motivation options for our business will have the utmost benefit to our employees and our organization’s success. Next, we will discuss the cost analysis of this proposal. What is the cost as opposed to the Benefit of my proposal? First let us start off with the first portion of the proposal being greater career opportunities and advancement. Career advancement is something everyone wants no matter if they make it evident or not. It is something that many employees look forward to, but many
3 organizations do not provide these opportunities to their employees. If we look inside the organization there are already opportunities for advancement so that will not cost a thing to our organization but higher pay for those who advance. However, the training needed for employees to have the knowledge to take on these positions is estimated to cost $16,000 and that is just including local training opportunities we have researched. The benefit to this is that employees’ creativity will be boosted as well as motivation and morale, they will work harder to have better quality products and be a bigger asset to the organization. Next, we will discuss the opportunity for our employees and their families to advance their education. The average four-year degree costs over $100,000 and an average of 45 million Americans have college debt. Why not help them and their families reach their goals? We would start with our employees and branch out to families once our scholarship program is established. Not only would this assist in knocking down the debt but it would assist our employees to reach their lifelong goals that not all get the opportunity to achieve which will motivate them to both work harder and advance in our organization. Lastly, I will discuss the portion of morale and team building activities. All too often I see a team that is not really a team and does not work together well. Although nobody likes the term mandatory fun it is beneficial for morale building and we can change their minds to think more positively about events inside and outside of work. The first idea is that we could do monthly cookouts to get the team and even the families together with a potluck or just provide them food, drinks, and activities. These types of events are not too costly to the organization especially if we throw in a potluck here and there. These types of events can bring our “work family” together as well as other families to get out of our comfort zones and build morale for our team. We can also do outside the organization events such as dinners, fishing trips, laser tag, or escape rooms, etc. We have so many opportunities to build our team’s cohesiveness, morale,

4 and motivation. As far as cost goes an average cookout or potluck could cost upwards of $500 or more, the cost for a fishing trip would be an average of $250 per person, and any other smaller activity such as laser tag or escape rooms average about $20 per person. We could create a company morale and recreation fund and fundraise throughout the year to be able to get our employees together. Can you really put a price on employee happiness that is unattainable? Conclusion In conclusion we have talked about numerous opportunities to boost motivation, team cohesion, and morale. These opportunities include career advancement, education scholarship or grants for employees and families, and morale and recreation events. All of these opportunities lead to the same place, success of employees and the organization through motivation.
