2 Digital Rights Management Digital Rights Management Digital Right Management (DRM) was created to protect the copyrights of digital content. For example, music released by artists on music platforms, websites, blueprints for a business, or anything that can be created digitally can be protected by DRM. The owner of the content has the ability to disperse the encryption code to others, but must be aware of the threat can follow with releasing that type of information. The reason organizations are using DRM to protect their content is simply because its their content. Without the protection of DRM, anyone can use your ideas for capital gain. For example, during the pandemic I started a press business making shirts. I learned quickly that even an artist picture and name can be considered content, and before using their brand for profitable gains without permission from the artist was a violation of the artist Digital Rights. Vitrium DRM is an application that can used as a barrier between the creator, and the consumers who using the Digital Content. This application allows the content creator the ability to control who has access to the content and the way they use it. Vitrium protects documents, and the access of these documents. This ethical part of DRM is that it allows protections and security for an organization digital content. If one was to violate the digital rights of an individual, then DRM ethically protects the legal implications. The main
3 Digital Rights Management advantage of DRM is the protection that is provided to the creator and their content. A disadvantage of using DRM is the limitations that is placed on the product even after purchasing the rights to the content. For example, one may have purchased a book on one device and downloaded it to their tablet or cellular device. Though the consumer purchased the content, DRM allows the author to limit where the content can be accessed. Organization Policies and Laws In my current role, I am a manager over transportation department for Amazon. Everyday that I have to find innovative/ ethical ways to approach a situation when dealing with my drivers. With being an IT manager, I would approach the issues the same way, but from a technical perspective. As a manager it is important to be current with the policies and laws as they affect the organization rights and digital content. Each law or policy that is set into place for the business have an attribute that is necessary to protect an organization. Technology is a network that is growing rapidly. As an IT manager understanding the federal, state, and local laws will assist with keeping the organizations’ framework secured and in compliance.
