Western Governors University Henry Santana Student ID: 011308113 PFIT Task 1 – Career Outlook Report B. The career path that captivates my interest the most is that of an IT project manager. In this role, individuals are tasked with overseeing the entire spectrum of an organization's information technology endeavors—from initial planning and execution to the distribution of responsibilities (Chai, W. & Lebeaux, R., 2021). My inclination towards this profession stems from its inherent sense of fulfillment and the ever-evolving landscape that constantly transforms for the better, offering continuous avenues for both personal and professional advancement. B1. IT Project Manager Salary Range: As of October 31, 2022, the typical pay for an IT project manager in the United States hovers around $98,000. It is important to recognize that this amount can vary based on factors like experience level, educational background, certifications, and skill proficiency. According to information gathered from Indeed in 2022, out of 287 reviews, a substantial 79% of IT project managers in the U.S. express contentment with their earnings, finding them adequate to meet the living costs in their respective localities. Employment Forecast: The trajectory for IT project managers is decidedly positive, showing sustained growth without any indication of deceleration. Records indicate that within the time from May 2021 to April 2022, employers published more than 600,000 job vacancies for project managers and IT project managers in the United States. In contrast to the previous 12-month data collection period, there was a notable surge, with the number of job opportunities escalating by over 200,000. Variety of Job Opportunities: The occupational landscape for IT project managers is broad and includes a range of positions. Some instances of these roles encompass titles such as cloud product director, cybersecurity project manager, data center product director, and scrum master,
among various others. Each of these job positions commands respect within its industry and is notably sought after, reflecting a substantial demand. Educational Requirements: The qualifications needed for IT project managers can vary between different employers. Many seek candidates with at least a bachelor's degree in a related field, such as business administration. Some IT project managers may boast a sought-after degree in project management, and a few might even hold a master's degree, although the necessity for advanced degrees depends on the specific employer (Madden, J. 2022).
