Course/Assessment Code: C714 v.4 ( NNM2 ) and D081 v.4 ( QBM2 ) Student Name: Elora Hicks Student ID: 010800720 Date: 10/9/2023 Program Mentor Name: Amber Norman A1 1. The fishing boat maker is most suited to the clan culture, according to the conflicting values framework. In order to bring the most inventive and inclusive ideas to market, the creators of this company have structured their principles around collaboration, teamwork, and boosting their workers' potential. By actively incorporating local Indian fisherman in product invention and execution, this collaborative culture has a favorable influence on the market entrance approach. Involving potential consumers in the development process and addressing local demands will help boost consumer value while also establishing familiarity with the company and its goods. Even though this is a long-term commitment, the company is approaching the market by building good international connections and endorsements through affiliation with companies. A2 1. The fishing boat company benefits greatly from a decentralized organizational structure since employees are heavily involved in decision-making and are rewarded for voicing new ideas. One of the goals of this company is to be among the first producers to join the Indian market. Project approvals and a lack of communication would greatly delay the pace if the business was run centrally. The decentralized organizational structure usually reduces the requirement for permission from different management levels, reducing time, boosting the diversity of viewpoints employed during product development, and enabling the firm to identify solutions that match new markets.   A3   1. The owner of the company treats each employee as an equal partner and gives them a say in business decisions. The US fishing boat company encourages employee participation at all levels so that all points of view may be considered when making decisions. Employees are more likely to successfully navigate complex difficulties with a variety of creative/innovative solutions within an open atmosphere. 2. The US fishing boat company's organizational structure is decentralized. By accepting the final product only after carefully examining all employee and customer complaints and suggestions, this framework has an impact on decision-making. The company's founders are always available to workers for collaboration or mentorship, providing a system that lessens oversight without restricting engagement. The
organization creates internal involvement while also creating unique products that attempt to satisfy the demands of new markets by fully involving all employees in the operation. 3. This company's mission and vision statements both call for helping consumers while reducing environmental effect. These factors played a role in the choice to collaborate with Indian fishermen and create a product suitable for NFDB clearance. Hiring local workers might help close any cultural or communication gaps that could have emerged during the promotion and sale of the product due to a lack of qualified translators. Without these specific objective statements, the company would not have decided to address local workforce issues in their redesign process. Without sufficient support, a sale or reorganization may fail and harm the company's brand. B1. 1. The existence and expansion of the fishing sector in India is the first increasing market aspect. “The nine coastal states of India have a population of 420 million. Of this, about 330 million live on or within 150 km of a coast” (Eyeing the Coastlines, n.d.) “The fisheries and aquaculture production contributes around 1% to India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and over 5% to the agricultural GDP.” (Fish Production and Consumption, n.d.) The design of the boat must be able to suit the demands of a large number of fishermen ranging in age from 13 to 70 years. 2. The second emerging market trend in India that has an impact on the company's product is the limitations placed on the use and acceptance of boats. Both the people and the fishing boat firm are concerned about the environment and wish to protect the fish's natural habitat while minimizing the disruptions that motorized boats create to their surroundings. The company's boat is already non-mechanical, but the NFDB in India requires that it be constructed with recyclable materials from India.       B2. 1. Because of India's expanding prominence in the fishing business, product development will take a variety of consumer ages into account. Because fishermen would transport them from their houses to the ocean and back, the design would have to be light and portable. The second product design adjustment would be directed at the environmentally aware emerging market, with the goal of minimizing waste and maintaining the fish's native ecology. An ecologically friendly waterproof coating and recyclable plastic from India will be used to construct the design. By setting up laboratories and employing local workers to work together and successfully produce a foldable, portable boat, the fishing boat maker has produced a product that fits both market requirements. These improvements would take into account the demands of regional fisherman as well as the features of the expanding market.
B2a. 1. Step 1: Empathize - To identify flaws, the company will evaluate the market, its audience, and industry opinions. The fishing boat manufacturer has already identified several emerging sectors in India that suit their own goals. To have a better understanding of this market, the company hired local fishermen to provide extra information and recommendations on product designs based on customer needs/wishes. This stage is critical for any organization since it lays the groundwork for the rest of the process and provides the criteria for any purpose or creative objectives that they would like to achieve. 2. Step 2: Define - The define step of design thinking results in a comprehension of what was empathized. The fishing boat company discovered that fishermen, and Indian rules in general, cherish the environment and want to maintain natural fishing habitat. Satisfying the fishermen's desire to maintain the environment is a vital component of establishing a competitive edge as a corporation, and in order to accomplish this stage, the company must establish standards on what their design should be while remaining in line with Indian rules and regulations. 3. Step 3: Ideate - After understanding and detailing some of the market challenges, the company will employ critical thinking skills to develop solutions to solve the fishermen's concerns while simultaneously protecting the environment. This stage primarily provides ideas on how to carry out redesign operations to mix the recycled material created in India, the proper boat dimensions, and how to successfully market and advertise as a worldwide company. 4. Step 4: Prototype - Following successful brainstorming and plan formation, a limited number of prototype boats are manufactured based on the original designs. Customers may utilize the laboratories to work with the business and provide feedback in order to produce new designs and a successful final product. At this step, the developers can decide whether the product works, and, if not, develop another product by combining past and new information. 5. Step 5: Test - The business will be able to put the prototype boat through rigorous tests at this process. This method allows developers to make tiny changes to the product and retest it. Any major issues or weaknesses that were not obvious in a simulated aquatic environment may be identified in a real setting, allowing the fisherman to report the problem so that further improvements may be made. 6. Step 6: Implement - A full-scale product launch may commence after a successful prototype test. The fishing boat manufacturer may elect to manufacture and sell a limited number of non-mechanized vessels. The company may return to the design thinking step and repeat the process based on more sales assessments, client feedback, and data. When new inventive concepts that help the environment and consumers are discovered, newer versions or new boats with same designs may be built in the future.

B2b. 1. Company Culture - Corporate culture influences design thinking by including not just employee ideas and solutions, but also consumer concerns. During the empathy and ideation phases of the process, consumers are actively involved in communicating underlying challenges and worries in order to create prototypes for testing. Customers will be committed to and trusting of a business that can successfully relate to its target market and reassure them of its dedication to delivering the most cutting-edge designs. Despite the culture's emphasis on long- term methods, success is highly achievable. 2. Company Ethics - The company's mission statement is to be the "most sustainable company in the industry." (WGU Performance Assessment, n.d.) This statement expresses the company's commitment to offering products that help both consumers and the environment. The business altered its boats during the define, ideate, and prototype stages to employ Indian-made plastics, eco-friendly waterproof coating, and the engagement of locals throughout the entire process. 3. Organizational Structure - The empathize and define stage is when organizational structure is most crucial, but this is true throughout the whole process. Every employee at the fishing boat manufacturing has a voice in corporate decisions because of the company's decentralized structure. Employees at all levels are encouraged to speak up, creating a productive environment in which all perspectives may be considered and included into the final product. Any other structure would restrict the product's potential by delegating ultimate choices and design implementations to a few upper-level administrators. Finally, the organizational structure of this corporation promotes active participation from all levels of employees in order to develop the most imaginative ideas possible. C. 1. By making decisions that benefit the company, the environment, and the intended consumers, the fishing boat company has kept its ethical goal. Because they require the business to meet the National Fisheries Development Board's endorsement requirements, these constraints have an impact on the company's market entry strategy. Despite the fact that the company's design already supports the concept of nonmechanized boats, India's rules and regulations are primarily concerned with preserving the natural habitat of the fish and decreasing garbage in the country's landfills.
