1 Week 4 Assignment. Kiayis S. Hinton Walden University, Master of Social Work. SOCW 6070- Supervision, Leadership and Administration Dr. Cora Jackson Sunday, December 24 th , 2023.
2 Organizational Culture. A company's beliefs, values, and attitudes are reflected in its organizational culture. Business culture influences how employees perceive and approach their tasks, as well as how they interact with clients, and colleagues. The organization, “People First San Diego” focus is about charitable efforts. PFSD’s mission to help individuals and families learn the skills they need to live happier lives. “Everyone is valued for who they are, their unique life experiences and points of view, and no one is tried to alter them (Walden University LLC, 2022).” Overview. People First San Diego organization mission about prioritizing communities and the people first. The organization fulfil the mission through offering housing and employment assistance to clients, as well as supply mental health, physical well-being, and emotional wellness through community programs. People First San Diego aspires to meet clients’ needs, including to provide equitable and culturally sensitive services. San Diego is home to more than 1.3 million people. Majority of PFSD’s clients are Latinos, those who identify as LGBTQIA+, disabled people, and clients with limited resources ranging from various ethnicities. The National Association of Social Workers (2022) emphasizes “ cultural humility ;” where an individual put their own opinions and ideas aside to help others and do what is best for someone and the community. This sets a good example for the community. Equity and Inclusion Culture in the Organization. Equity and Inclusion. People First San Diego hires people from a variety of backgrounds. All members of an organization are treated equally and given equal opportunity when it is inclusive, no matter ethnicity, who they are, or what they believe in (Northouse, 2020).
3 Leaders have to cultivate an inclusive workplace where staff are trained to meet demands of clients and are attentive to cultural diversity. Political correctness and propriety norms are said to induce communication anxiety, raising the risk and predictability of cross-cultural contacts (Berstein, 2019.) People First San Diego can successfully lead by providing quality services to the individuals and families it serves through cultivating a culture that values collaboration and open communication. As a leader, I would also cultivate a culture for coaching, learning, and development. The team would be motivated to pursue new skills and learn about added information once development and training opportunities were made available. I would ensure individuals and families are offered the assistance and resources they need, while giving outstanding service as it’s the People First San Diego's top priority. The most valuable takeaway I learned is giving people the hope of guaranteed access to the resources they need, effective leadership fosters an environment of equity, inclusivity, and respect for all.
