Report
A. I believe that Kamal attempted to keep the meeting on track, however, May continuously interrupting both Lee and Kamal diverted the meetings intents. The first employee’s sentiment about the upgrade possibly being outdated by the time the team is available to implement it was a very important point to bring up. Kamal attempted to encourage the team to be optimistic. May then interrupted with a more pessimistic sentiment highlighting that her team resorted to working on their personal systems which created security issues. While that is initially a good point to bring up, she did not let Kamal speak on the point of the meeting before issuing the negatives of what the team already knows is a negative situation. Kamal then rightfully transitioned into the reason for the meeting of trying to define a team that would be best to complete this project. May’s more combative approach brought a negative and pessimistic feel to the meeting. Kamal attempted to keep the meeting together by diverting and encouraging the team. B. Lee brought proper data from a report of all metrics that highlighted who would be the best based on the metrics and spoke to which team has history with problematic upgrades. While May did bring good points to the meeting, her communication style brought a negative feel to the meeting. As it was very understandable, that the report should have gone out farther than two weeks, there was a better way to communicate that. Kamal attempted to be the mediator and encourage the team to stay positive and optimistic. C. The leader of the meeting appeared to be Kamal. I believe that he was the leader of the meeting because he was the employee to start/end the meeting, diffuse conflicts, and pivot to Lee for her data. May also asked for Kamal’s input leading me to believe that Kamal is the leader of the meeting. D. I believe that Kamal was the leader of the meeting, and his role was to assist in the distribution of the information by delegating to Lee for accurate data. While May’s communication style did come off as combative, she did make very good points about the conflicts of Lee’s data that resulted in the data being ran again with a wider time frame. E. a. List of team members i. Kamal ii. Lee iii. May iv. Diego b. Questions to be asked i. Ask Diego and May what their separate approaches will be to catch up and complete this project. ii. Ask what other projects both teams have currently or in the future that may affect the amount of personnel they can have on this project iii. Ask how many personnel will be delegated for this project iv. Ask Lee to redefine her findings from the new time period c. Goals and expectations for the meeting i. Understand both teams strengths and weaknesses ii. Define a team best for this project d. I will allow each team lead to answer my questions, I will also allow them to answer questions of their own. If there are team leaders that are continuously interrupting or
being combative about another person’s comments, I will ask them to let the initial person speak and let them know that we will be able to revisit their comments when at the appropriate time in the meeting. I will take each team leader and Lee’s comments into consideration with my decision. However, depending on their answers, I may need to have an outside conversation with Kamal as he knows the teams’ strengths and weaknesses more than I do as I am new to the company. At the end of the meeting I will let the team know that I will have a decision to them by the close of business and schedule another meeting with the team lead that I choose the next business day.
