Global Dimensions in Business April 10, 2022
Hi manager,
Thank you for trusting me to lead this team. I know leading a team with people from
different countries, cultures, and beliefs can become really challenging, but I won’t let this
challenge become a problem between the team. We are all working towards the same goal. So, I
will make sure everyone on the team learns about each other culture and beliefs as a way to
become a cohesive team that communicates well and collaborates effectively together.
With team members from India (Nina), United Arab Emirates (Syed), United States
(Kelly), and South Korea (Kaspar), we must look at the cultural considerations of each country
to learn about their culture since it can influence how we work and communicate with each
other. Looking at the Power Distance, India, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates had a
high score, meaning they respect hierarchy. In other words, it means Nina, Syed, and Kaspar will
respect my decisions as their superior and follow my instructions. The United States scored low,
and this is something I need to contemplate if any conflicts arise between Kelly and the team or
my decisions.
Looking at Individualism, the United Arab Emirates and South Korea had low
scores, considered collectivistic societies. They take care of each member's team and expect
loyalty in exchange. Also, they had high scores in Uncertainty avoidance. Both countries
maintain rigid codes of belief and behavior, like precision and punctuality. And they don't
tolerate new ideas or willing to try something new or different, in contrast, India and United
States had a low score in Uncertainty avoidance.
