Shama Saramah Task 1 A1- The organizational structure that I would implement is the team-based structure. One main characteristic of a team-based structure is that it groups workers with similar skill sets work together in teams working towards a common goal which would work best for my consulting business, it works toward what my company would want to be, new and innovative. I will group employees into separate teams based on their skills. Each employee is to use their skills to achieve the company’s goal, also with teams it will be easier to have each group of employees focused on the client's needs by choosing the team with the appropriate skills to best serve the client, also with team-based structure decision-making is distributed among different teams of employees and that would help the consulting business with coming up with new ideas and solutions. A2- Functions or departments: Each team in the consulting firm will have its functional department where the employees (team members) will be chosen with a skill that will benefit the department they are in. This way each team will be able to focus on each department they are put into to achieve the company’s goal. Chain of command: Each team will have a project manager who the team members answer to, and review with the project manager of each team Will have to report to the general manager. Centralized or decentralized: The consulting firm will be centralized where the general manager will make the final decision after getting the report from the project manager of each team. Level of formality: I will make it so there is a formality and that it is known that the chain of command should be respected, and the rules must. be followed and respected. b- Contingency/Situational theory would be best for my consulting business. The contingency and situational theory requires that managers be able to adapt and make changes in different situations and have different responses based on the circumstances they and the clients are in.
Because the consulting business has changing variables and clients with varying needs, the contingency theory will help managers make difficult and fast decisions based on their situations. C1- The goals of this business are to provide incremental growth in the areas of sustainability, increased profitability, and increased brand recognition. Using a team-style organizational structure will help the consulting firm meet its goals by assigning each of these goals to a specific work team to focus on. The contingency/situational theory with the team style structure would help towards solving problems quicker to reach the goal. C2- With the team structure, the consulting company will be able to accomplish its goal which is to provide incremental growth in the areas of sustainability, increased profitability, and increased brand recognition much quicker because each team will have its own set of different abilities to provide for the client’s needs. Teams will be more productive because there will be a project manager who makes sure that the final work of the team is up to standard and aligns with the company’s role.
