C. Work Package Work packages are a key work breakdown structure (WBS) component. As mentioned by PMI (2004), work packages are described as "a deliverable-oriented hierarchical decomposition of the work to be executed by the project team to accomplish the project objectives and create the required deliverables." Work Package ID 1.1.1 Work Package Name Floors Responsible Organization / Individual Mr. Deepak Kumar – Project Manager Work Package Description This work package entails the various tasks involved in the removal of the existing floor including demolishing the tiles, evacuating the scrap, cleaning the floor, and levelling it to 1 inch below the Ground level. Acceptance Criteria Signoff from key stakeholders and construction and planning departments. Deliverables Installation of new heated flooring Duration 1 week Cost 3000 CAD Due Date 23-Jun-23 Dependencies Approved Floor Plan Documents Approvers Owner, Project Manager, Interior Designer, Engineer According to Brotherton et al. (2008), the use of work packages offers a variety of advantages, as it enables a Project Manager to divide a large project into smaller, more manageable parts. All in all, these work packages make it simpler for: Planning and forecasting timelines. Get a comprehensive view of the deliverables. Communicate effectively between project team members. Work packages are revised as frequently as necessary as they are designed to respond to the requirements of the ongoing project, they may need to be changed in terms of ownership, completion dates, or the constituents of the project. D. Most Interesting Thing Learned 1) How to customize a work package according to the client’s requirements but it should also align with the project specifications. 2) The work package deliverables are an extension of the items on the work breakdown structure which should be general. 3) It is of utmost importance to be under the specified budget and time irrespective of whether the project is big or small otherwise everything could go haywire. 4) Page 7 of 9
