Describe a dysfunctional example of conflict and a functional example of conflict in an organization that you are familiar. What were some of the useful aspects of organizational conflict in this setting? When two departments within a company were constantly at odds with each other and refusing to collaborate or communicate effectively is a perfect example of a dysfunctional example. This situation will lead to a breakdown in productivity and morale and a negative impact on the company's bottom line. On the contrary, a functional example might be a situation where a team of employees had differing opinions on how to approach a project but through open communication and respectful banter, they were able to come to a consensus and ultimately produce a successful outcome. Overall, the useful aspects of organizational conflict were growth and improvement opportunities. For instance, in the dysfunctional example, the conflict highlighted the need for better communication and collaboration of strategies. In contrast with the functional example, the conflict allowed for a diversity of ideas and perspectives to be considered thus resulting in a stronger end result."Conflict can in some circumstances be positive because it offers individuals a chance to share information and shed new light on a situation" (More et. al., 2020).
