Article Summary for Advanced OBM APA Formatted Reference: Wilder, D. A., Austin, J., & Casella, S. (2009). Applying behavior analysis in organizations: Organizational behavior management.   Psychological Services, 6 (3), 202–211. Purpose of the study (1-2 sentences): This study used the PDC to develop an intervention for increasing the percentage of opportunities in which treatment plans are implemented correctly in a treatment center. Following the training of treatment plans, equipment modification (visual prompts and data collection procedures), and weekly group graphic feedback intervention, the percentage of opportunities in which treatment plans are implemented correctly in a treatment center increases. Participants: 100 employees at the Therapeutic Center. Setting: Therapeutic Center: a residential treatment center for adolescents with severe behavioral problems Dependent Variable and Measurement (Describe how they measured each DV) : percentage of opportunities in which plans are implemented appropriately. Measured with a data sheet created from a spreadsheet. Random measurement of staff treatment plan implementation using data sheets and weekly group graphic feedback. Assessment and Findings (If any) : Data sheet analyses result in correct implementation of treatment plans on around 60% of opportunities. The PDC was used with psychologists and employees and deficits were noted in antecedents and information, equipment, and consequences. Independent Variable: Training to mastery of each treatment plan, visual prompts on collecting data and following specific activity schedules to reach general treatment plan implementation, and feedback. Experimental Design: Multiple baseline design across units (adolescent and child) Results (It’s okay to summarize if there are a lot to report) : The intervention increased correct implementation of treatment plans from 60% to 80% (above goal) in the adolescent unit. Staff members were satisfied with the new process and feedback. After a cost-benefit analysis, Therapeutic Center saves money with lower staff turnover and the increased number of residents that can be treated. Six-month follow-up led to a 90% mean percentage of correct implementation of treatment plan. Write one interesting point of discussion about the study that could be used in class. During the intervention plan they implemented visual prompts in the center and mastery criterion for each treatment plan. Would only the mastery criterion result in the same percentage of correct implementation of treatment plans if all employees must have a 90% correct implementation in vivo and in a written test?
