I am Melissa Aguilar and was a member of the Succession Planning Committee. I am currently pursuing a degree in Business Administration at the University of Maryland, Global Campus. I will be graduating in the fall of 2024. I am interested in advancing my career within the company. I would like this opportunity to share with you my abilities and experiences. II. I am wanting to be considered for the future position of the Director of Finance. The learning competencies that the succession planning committee felt is needed are solving problems and making decisions, demonstrating ethics and integrity, communicating effectively, and building and maintaining relationships ( Learning Competencies, 2008) . There are more learning competencies that the Director of Finance might need to have but these are the four that are the most important. I feel that I have the competencies needed to fill this position. I have a high ethical compass as well as the ability to solve problems. III. After taking the Jung Personality Typology Test, I am an INFJ personality. According to my personality results, I take on more responsibility and look out for my fellow coworkers. My personality suits this position because it allows me to be in an environment where I do not need to be present around everyone but also allows me to complete tasks and manage the workflow throughout the department. The Director of Finance position also allows me to shine in the area that I am not a risk-taker but I try to be risk-tolerant and see the big picture of what needs to be appropriated. I am very confident in my abilities and have very high self esteem. I am excited for this opportunity to convey my abilities and talents. The Director of Finance position is of great interest to me because it will allow me to show that even though I am introverted at times, I can be the type of director that leads their department by example. My self esteem allows me to also deal with high stressful situations like finance without feeling overwhelmed. IV. My communication skills assessment states that I have a good foundation. The communication skills that are required for the position of Director of Finance are not where they should be with development on my part, I can become a good communicator within the finance department. I do have my weaknesses within communication that need to be worked on. One weakness that needs to be worked on is the fact that sometimes I get angry when other people are talking and I do not feel the same way that they feel. I do have great communication skills when other people are speaking and

2 listen to everything that is said before stating my opinion. I am also willing to listen to other opinions and could change my stance if valid points are made. My communication skills will be an asset to the finance department because I am open-minded and can convey the objectives and strategies that the company sets forth. V. The outcome of my top five strengths was very enlightening. My five strengths were empathizer, deliverer, coach, self-believer, and problem solver. After taking the leadership style test, it was determined that I am a diplomat. I believe that the two strengths that I have that will help me in the role of Director of Finance are self-believer and deliverer. My strength as a self-believer is that I am independent and can inspire others to reach their full potential. I also think that my strength as a sef-believer will help others see the confidence in my work ethic and it will allow them to achieve their goals and the company’s goals to the best of their abilities. My strength as a deliverer will help in the finance department because it will show that I can deliver on the promises that are made by the company. My leadership style as a diplomat will allow me to keep the finance department running smoothly and I have the ability to solve any conflict that arises within the department. The diplomat in me will also allow me to nurture and help my employees grow their own potentials so that they can move into better positions and become even better leaders. VI. According to the cultural intelligence quiz, I have a high cultural intelligence. The emotional intelligence quiz also stated my scores between an 8 and 9. The high cultural intelligence will allow me the opportunity to work with employees of different backgrounds and continue to learn and grow through them. Since I have a high cultural intelligence, even if I do not get the promotion to Director of Finance, I am willing to move to any location that will benefit the company. My emotional intelligence numbers state that I have a self-awareness which allows me to understand the emotions I am feeling even in tense situations. I can keep my emotions in check but I can always learn to improve my self-awareness so that I am better able to control my emotions. I also have very high self-management and relational management. I am able to maintain a high degree of integrity and honesty as well as help others reach their potential through guiding and inspiring. VII. The ultimate ethics quiz stated that I have a high ethical compass. I believe that being ethical will only reward me in the future. I do not put my ethics aside when conflict arises even if that means I am not with the majority. I believe that having good ethics will allow me to have a better understanding of my coworkers as well as business partners. I also think that the level of ethics that people have will allow me to see their true intentions whether in business or in other endeavors. VIII. In conclusion, I feel that I am quite qualified for the position of Director of Finance. I have the leadership skills needed to become a great leader and not just a manager who only looks for results from my employees. I believe the finance department is the perfect fit for me as well since I am very motivating and inspiring to my coworkers.
