1. Reflect on the scenarios presented in the game. Was there anything you found particularly difficult? Anything that surprised you? One scenario in particular I remember getting right was one that involved a new supervisor introducing themselves to their team. The options were to either introduce themselves to every employee individually, or set up a meeting and introduce themselves to everyone at the same time. I chose for them to introduce themselves to every employee, individually. I chose this option because we recently got a new store manager at my job, and instead of having a meeting she’s slowly getting to meet everyone, forming stronger bonds. It was pretty easy to decide what the ethical decision was in the game. 2. Explain how something you learned in the game connects to something you learned from the text. In the game there was a big back and forth conflict about whether or not customer feedback was worth spending so much of the company's budget on. I decided it was worth it. In the text it was said Hasbro was number one in the “100 Best Corporate Citizens” ranking, for a number of reasons, one being community. “Another key part of product safety at Hasbro is incorporating continuous feedback from both consumers and retailers…” Verch, M. (n.d.). Module 1: Learn - Ethics, Corporate Responsibility, & Sustainability (Chapter 5). 3. How could you use the concepts discussed in this simulation in your job today? Give an example of a situation you've been in where you could use a concept from the simulation. My job doesn’t include making big corporate decisions like in the game, instead It involves making customer connections and working together as a team. Therefore an experience I can relate to is adjusting myself to a new person and their needs. In the game a position needed to be filled. The candidate didn't have much experience in the position but was somebody that’s been reliable to the company. The options were to hire the candidate and have the team adjust or look for somebody else entirely. The ethical decision and the one I picked was to have the team adjust, which is something we do a lot at my job when we hire new partners. Not everyone learns the same and not everybody gets the concept right away and it's up to us to be patient and flexible.
