Kimberly Barrick 6-3 Organizational Structures 6/10/23 Explanation of Changes : Explain your reasoning for why you made the changes you did to the company’s organizational structure. Include how your changes differ from the original and why you believe they would benefit the organization. o The overall reason for all of my changes is to make communication of needs and skills easier for every employee. All of the Directors have direct lines of communication to each other, making collaboration easier between the teams. I have placed the Director of Shared Services in charge of any teams that could be utilized by everyone (IT, HR, Floats), including a group of “Floaters”. I also created 2 project groups with their own individual managers for the Project Group and the Services Group. Both teams on the Project Group and Services Group have direct lines of communication to each other and both groups have the same as well. My changes differ from the original structure by allowing full collaboration between teams, as opposed to ridge direct lines of communication to the person directly above you. This allows for talents and ideas to be shared and utilized without the hassle of “running it up the chain” as leaders can make these decisions autonomously. I have also created an easier way to access shared resources by giving teams direct contact with the Director (through management) in order to quickly and efficiently request IT and HR. There is also a new group of “Floater”
that can be utilized by any group or team they are needed on. They will provide extra help on projects, fill in for any medical/maternity leave, and provide overall assistance where needed. The company will benefit from these changes by being able to utilize all employees to the best of their abilities, leading to the increase in productivity and an improved team culture. Impact on Organizational Communication : Describe the impact these changes will have on the company’s overall organizational communication. o I believe the changes I have made will improve communication company-wide. Teams will be able to communicate within their own individual team freely, promoting brainstorming of ideas and sharing skills. Problems can be solved quickly by any team being able to request HR and IT services and additional project support. Main company goals and objectives are shared straight to the Directors of each Group, who then will be able to delegate the tasks to whole teams without much micromanaging amongst the teams. Impact on Team Communication : Describe the impact these changes will have on the company’s overall team communication and reporting structure. o I foresee these changes creating an easier reporting structure for all teams. Having a dedicated team manager to work directly with and report to will help build trust and facilitate more rich forms of communication like team meetings and group calls. I want the teams to be able to work together without the hassle of getting approval from directors. Teams will no longer need to wait to get approval for IT issues, as they can go directly to IT for assistance. I believe giving each department more independence in how they choose to work on project will make
employees feel more valued and like their opinions and needs are valid, respected, and understood. References
