Prior to beginning work on this discussion forum, read Chapters 11 and 12 of the text, and the article Leadership: It’s Not About You Links to an external site. . Write: In your initial post, discuss developing the right mixture of skills, experiences, and attitudes to succeed in accounting leadership. What attributes do you think translate to good leadership skills? Make sure your post is more than 200 words and that you include a brief quote or paraphrase the reading material where appropriate (see the Writing Center’s Quoting, Paraphrasing, & Summarizing Links to an external site. guide for assistance with in-text citations). As Amy Modglin explains, being a leader is more than a simple title given to you. A leader needs to possess certain qualities in order to become a truly exceptional leader. To become an exceptional leader, you must have the right mixture of skills. This includes, but is not limited to, integrity, communication, and creativity. Having integrity as a leader in accounting demonstrates your honesty and reliability to clients as well as to those who are following you. With creativity, a leader is open-minded and listens to their employees and clients when a suggestion for change is made. As the article states, "Your focus should be on developing them, helping them succeed, and watching them grow into the people they want to become" (Modglin, 2017). This highly guarantees that the workplace is welcoming, enjoyable, and appealing to work in. Communication is key. It is what keeps everyone informed about events, and when people are able to communicate effectively, there is less turmoil, confusion, and inefficiency at work. Being a successful leader requires more than just having the proper combination of skills. As everyone knows, "Practice makes perfect." This is more often than not the case in leadership. A leader with experience will be able to address an issue before it gets out of control. When a leader has prior experience in the role, there is always a solution. Consequently, this aids a leader in maintaining composure and a positive outlook that inspires others to follow them. In my view, a successful leader must possess the abilities to lead effectively, the know-how to handle any situation, and the appropriate mindset to demonstrate good sportsmanship and open-mindedness.
