Imagine you have completed a stakeholder analysis and you identify a high power, high interest stakeholder with strong objections to change, even though the stakeholder agrees that the identified problem exists and should be addressed. Discuss how you would navigate this situation. In response to peers, discuss whether you agree with the steps taken to navigate resistance to change and provide alternative solutions or perspectives. As discussed in my first discussion question of this week. Parish employees received a $500 per month pay raise. The Superintendent at the time went to the School Board Members to make a motion to have sales tax raised in Vermilion Parish for employees to get pay raises. However, this was about 14 years ago when this plan was first introduced. The Board Members did not object to the plan, because they believed employees deserved pay raises, however this would be up to the biggest stakeholders of all the community. Taxpayers often do not see the need for an increase in sales tax. They see it as them having to pay more for gas, groceries, and clothing in the parish. This leads most of them to shop online and in other parishes or districts because the sales tax is cheaper. Over the years the parish started to lose teachers, with this high turnover rate of employees. The board and current superintendent were able to use this as a positive way for taxpayers to agree to the sales tax. This helps children get the education they need, and be taught by certified teachers, rather than having a permanent substitute to teach a class they know nothing about. After all I do agree with the approach because the employees were able to receive that pay raise, they had been waiting for a long time. Not only does this help the taxpayers with their children’s education, but it helps these employees to provide for their families as well. Montiee, Meridional, A. (2022, April 27).
