Staff recruitment Assessment 1 Rele play done separately 3. Conduct a face-to-face interview with the candidates. You will have to have three classmates who will play the roles of three candidates. Your teacher will put you in separate break out rooms where each student is required to interview three candidates. As evidence, you are required to submit the answers provided to the interview questionnaire by 3 candidates 4. As the position is for the sales role, in the interview you will assess the candidate’s sales skills by asking them to sell something to you. 5. At the end of the interview, you will ask additional information from the candidates Face to face interview (To save on time this interview was conducted with all the candidates present at office which is located at amazon towers, mezzanine floor room 3G, in the conference room. The interview was supposed to be at 10:00am but Eric Adams came in a little bit late giving an excuse of traffic). Juli (hiring officer): (Enter in the conference room at 10:20am) Good morning to you all? I thought you were supposed to be three, where is the other one? Eric Adams: (Knocks on the conference room) Excuse me, may I come in. Juli: I think we are all here, despite the weather I trust you are all fine and ready to start the interview, there is a bottle of water Infront of you, please feel free to use it. Candidates: Thank you. Juli: we are here on an interview to find most suitable client for a role of sales representative, you are all welcomed and please feel free to answer the questions asked. All of you will introduce yourself before you proceed. My name is Juli. I am representing the office of Human Resource of Premier microfinance, let us continue with introduction from my right. Juli: (takes out the files and goes through them) tell us more about yourself Victor Montes: Good morning, my name is Victor, am 27 years old. For the past five years I have been working as sales representative at platinum’s credit microfinance and equity bank. I have background marketing skills, with a degree from California university, what got me into the field of marketing is through the internship I got in the equity bank. Throughout my career, I have noticed that I have always been good with people and marketing, for example when I was working at Platinum’s my credit portfolio was always at the top, I managed to improve sales from 10% to 20%. Moving forward, I hope to expand my experiences and that’s why am interested in your company.
Angela Jones: Good morning my name is Angela Jones, am 30 years old. Married with two children. I have been working for seven years ago, I started as a shop attendant at my father’s shop while going to school, I did my internship at Icon advertising agency it is there that I started my career as a marketer, then moved to Stanbic bank where I made my mark because I was able to bring in more clients which stayed like that. After my supervisor retired, I was promoted to manager of sales and market department and letter on promoted to senior manager. Due to a lot of commitment to my family I letter resigned and become as stay at home mum and doing online advertisement for small business firms. Now I want to work because my children are now grown and my skills are needed in this organization. Eric Adams: Good morning, am Eric Adams, 21years old, just graduated from university, just from internship at Access microfinance. I know I don’t have much experience but I read in your advert Microsoft skills is an added advantage and that is why I have applied to bring fresh knowledge and skills in your company. Juli: wow! Am impressed. Starting with Victor, please tell us your strength and weaknesses as a sales representative? Victor: my strength is to build strong and lasting relationship with the clients, understanding the needs and concerns helps me establish trust and credibility leading to repeat client referrals. My weakness is I tend to be overcritical of my own work which often leads to unnecessary stress but am working on it to find my balance. Angela Jones: for me I excel in building rapport with client very easily but I tend to have pressure meeting the monthly targets because the market of late is not good due to fluctuations within the market sometimes it gets hard to convince the client Eric Adams: to me being a person of color some client tends to be racist so its hard to sell a product to a client who is like that so most of time I accept myself because I can’t change other people perspective of me but I can provide many solutions for a client’s problem until we come up with what can help the client Juli: Angela Jones, can you share with us the strategies you have used in the past to connect with potential clients? Angela Jones: While working at Stanbic bank, I implemented a targeted social media campaign that was made to meet specific targeted group like teachers and other civil servants through apps like WhatsApp in their groups which led to the increase of sales within the first quarter. Juli: Okay Eric Adams. Could you provide an example of a challenging client situation you have encountered? How did you address it and what was the outcome? Eric Adams: I once had this client who was frustrated with the delays of loans approval. I empathetically listened to their concerns an investigated the issue. It turned out there was an issue with the system which was with the company’s system of disbursement. I managed to notify the management who was aware of the issue but later on settled with the IT technicians, I kept updating the client throughout. As a result, the client frustration turned into appreciation and he became one of the most loyal customers and brought in more customer.
Juli: wonderful. Victor, can you share with us the instances where you had to make an ethical decision in sales related situation? How did you handle while maintaining trust and professionalism? Victor: Well, during a sales presentation, a potential client asked if we could provide him a loan but he was not stable he was very drunk. I gave the guy my contacts and asked me to come back when he was sober, I called the number of his next of kin to come and take him home. The next day he came when he was sober and appreciated my honesty because I did not take advantage of his state although he took, he later referred me to other clients because of my integrity. Juli: That was wonderful. Angela Jones, please tell us how did you ensure the customers felt valued and heard in your previous company? Angela Jones: Thank you. While working at Stanbic bank, a client had urgent inquiry about her account during the weekend, despite being non-working hours, I responded immediately to the email, acknowledging her concerns and assured her I will check on it first thing on Monday when I get in the office also, I gave her my personal number to call me in case she has any further questions. She expressed her gratitude. Juli: Excellent, I see we are on the right track, tell me Eric where do you see yourself in the next five years? Eric Adams: I want to commit myself to personal and professional growth so that in the next five years I can have more experience in my sales skills taking more responsibilities and contributing team success by achieving targets and be part of the growth of this reputable company. Juli: That is nice. Are you flexible Eric Adams Eric Adams: Of course, yes. Juli: and you Angela jones? Angela Jones: certainly Juli: Is there any other concern you will need me to address or any additional information? Victor: will I get paid on commission based or salaried? If am paid on commission can there be a retainer? Juli: Thank you for your question. Am glad you asked that. You are going to be paid on commission of 5% of total loan you gave out per month with a retainer on 10$. You will also be provided with travelling allowances and provided lunch by the company. Victor: Wow! That’s really good. Angela Jones: I would like to ask if being a mother is a problem? Juli: no, we don’t discriminate in fact being a mother shows how committed you are to your work. For instance, you had to resign so as to take care of your children.

Juli: it is nice, how much do you sell it? Victor: It was going for 10$ but since it is on promotion, I will make you an offer of 9$. Juli: what! That expensive? Victor: come on, look at its quality, I promise you buying this chair is the best investment you will ever make, imagine investing in your comfort? It pays off every day, by choosing this chair you are choosing a place where you will focus on your tasks and find relaxation after a long day, just see its adjustable, you won’t find it anywhere else. What is your thought? Juli: I like it very much but I will only take it with a discount of 0.5%. Victor: Okay, we have a deal. (Laughing while shaking hands). Juli: Sure. Adams its your turn now, sell me this phone. Eric Adams: okay. You are all awesome at selling. I will like to mend here; you have been a great company.
