2 Leader Profile Assignment Written Report PART A: Background Elon Musk is a popular business person and CEO of Tesla Motors. He was born and raised by a Canadian mother in Pretoria, South Africa and later acquired a Canadian citizenship at the age of 18. Before moving to Canada 1989, Elon Musk had started studying at University of Pretoria thus decided to join Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario in 1990 and later transferd to the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia where he studied Physics and economics and received a bachelor's degree in 1997 (Blystone et al., 2022, p.1). Elon musk studied Physics and economics thus managed to acquire the transformational leadership skill that ensures there is a constant improvements and positive progress within leadership. Elon Musk aims at philosophizing the world and making it a better place as evidenced by his innovations at Tesla Motor. Elon musk was still young in 2004 when he started as a young investor as an electric manufacturer before becoming the CEO of Tesla Motors (Now Tesla Inc.) in 2008. Being visionary made it easy for Elon Musk to create “Solar City” in 2006, which became a solar energy company that later merged with Tesla Motors (Now Tesla Inc.) to form Tesla Energy making him an effective leader. Elon Musk is a leader that pulls together a team of individuals that can help him make effective decisions. He is a leader that is responsive and effective when it comes to communication. Communication is effective in leadership and Elon Musk has proved this by how he communicates with people on social media and feedback from some employees that work under him. Elon musk has planned community help programs that help the needy
3 especially in children homes and homes for nursing the elderly in Texas. He started the Musk Foundation in 2001 to help ensure people could get to learn basic AI knowledge and skills to help them interact effectively alongside earning a living. Elon Musk has been a role model to his employees at Tesla Motors such as Vaibhav Taneja as the Chief Accounting Officer, Zach Kirkhorn being the CFO, Drew Baglino as Energy Engineering and the SVP Powertrain at Tesla Inc. (JS, 2023, p.1). Elon Musk has united billionaires across the world to start project is various parts of Africa to help reduce poverty rate in countries such as Kenya where he gave $30 million to five start-ups in Kenya. It I evident that Elon Musk is concerned about the people around him thus making him a visionary leader who is willing to make developments that help people in the future. PART B: Connections to the Practices There are leadership practices that are evident in the leadership of Elon Musk at Tesla Inc. The leadership practices applied by Elon Musk are inspire a shared vision, encourage the heart, and model the way since they are evident in the approaches and strategies he employs in his transformational leadership style. Elon Musk inspires his employees and ensures he sets visions and objectives that are implementable and result to positive outcome to all. The vision "There is a clear path to a sustainable energy Earth by 2050 and it does not require destroying natural habitats" makes it evident that Elon Musk is willing and able to ensure the future is promising to everybody within the world through his leadership endurances (JS, 2023, p.1). The inspired vision leadership practice has made it easy for Elon Musk to create teams that are willing and able to execute their duties effectively towards achieving the vision, mission, and objectives of Tesla Inc. Elon Musk is a good listener who is always willing to hear opinions from others and use them positively towards ensuring there is effectiveness in management at Tesla

It has been easy for Elon Musk to make good decisions since inspire the shared vision enables him to consider opinions from others and acting on them positively. Encourage the heart is another leadership practice that Elon Musk has applied in ensuring there is effectiveness in operations at Tesla Inc. Elon Musk has personalized his recognition of his employees and teams to ensure they are comfortable within their working environment. Elon Musk acknowledges that leaders can inspire their employees by “reducing the noise in their work” alongside increasing productivity (CNBC, 2017, p.1). It is evident that Elon Musk is dedicated towards motivating his employees since he is among the best –paying employer in the world. Elon musk has also been a good role model to various successful business-people in the world because of his “action-oriented” approach towards ensuring his actions benefited the people around him especially employees (Blystone et al., 2022, p.1) It is true that model the way leadership practice has enabled Elon Musk become a leader that is recognized by many people who consider him as a role model. The model the way leadership practice has benefited Elon Musk since it has made it possible to listen to feedback from people especially customers and employees thus facilitating effective decision making. Elon Musk has been able to lead in an exemplary manner thus making employees emulate his approaches towards better performance and outcome. In 2008, Elon Musk became the CEO of Tesla Motors (Now Tesla Inc.) since he was persistent and ready to show others how effectiveness in production towards better outcome could be achieved. 5 I believe it is the duty of leaders to embrace leadership approaches that can help ensure people benefit from their actions. Workers at Tesla Inc. such as Vaibhav Taneja as the Chief Accounting Officer, Zach Kirkhorn being the CFO, Drew Baglino as Energy Engineering and the SVP Powertrain have become effective leaders due to the leadership practices applied by Elon Musk. I am certain that having an effective team as a leader is determinate of the overall outcome of the management and leadership applied. I have believed having an effective team can drive a leader to success as evidenced by the success journey of Elon Musk. An effective communicator similar to Elon Musk can be able to drive employees to productivity since communication crates an understanding that ensures people can share idea that are enriching. Elon Musk is a good leader has created unity among various billionaires in the world towards starting projects that ensure there are developments in African countries such as Kenya (Blystone et al., 2022, p.1). Elon Musk is among the investors that are helping facilitate investments in African countries that are still growing. Investing in other continents haelps boost the world’s economy thus I have learned that leaders have to there is positive impact around them and other parts of the world. As a leader, I have to set goals that will drive me towards putting efforts that will help in achieving the set goals as evidenced by Elon Musk in Tesla Inc. Elon Musk has made me understand the importance on involving a team in planning and execution due to increased success rate of his projects facilitated by the team under him. I have proved that setting visions is important to every leader so that they can put efforts that match the vision they have in their actions and implementations. I have learned that a leader should be a role model so that others can be emulate and become successful since most leaders have become successful because of taking Elon Musk as a role mode (CNBC, 2017, p.1). When I become leader, I would wish to poses the leadership skills similar to the ones applied by Elon
6 Musk since they enable him socialize with people, source ideas, and use the ideas to improve the efficiency of his decision-making involvement concerning efficiency and better performance. Effective planning is an essential tool so that it can be easy to implement strategies at the right time to help solve problems that can hinder success according to the effectiveness in planning showed by Elon Musk (Blystone et al., 2022, p.1).
