"The Meaning of Leadership" Please respond to the following:
•
From the e-Activity, analyze what has changed over the past several decades and what has stayed the same in leadership within organizations. Argue a position as to whether or not the meaning of leadership has changed significantly.
From the e-activity Ms. Gauda discusses what has changed over the past several decades and what has stayed the same in the leadership within organizations she stated that the leadership in the organizations today must cope with the issues of trust, rapid change of the company and the globalization to the information that the is being pursued. With that being said a lot of Leader within the company must be personally authentic, which means that they should be true to themselves and to their employees, they should be inclusive to everyone that they work with, be in constant pursuit of relevance and always be culturally competent
From the e-Activity, examine the contingency thinking approach and determine whether it is necessary to the study of successful leadership. Support your reasoning
.
Being a leader in today’s companies and organizations, a lot of successful leaders uses the contingency thinking approach when considering how to handle
a situation, if they are with the company of others, a lot of thoughts can be thrown out about how a situation should or can be handled, sometimes these suggestions can be way off base but a good leader will take all the suggestions into consideration, to determine which will be the right one to used.

From the vignette, “The Tonight Show: Things Don’t Always Go as Planned”, examine the different mishaps and mistakes that were made on the show. Propose three ways that these mishaps could have been avoided.
When Conan O’brien was negotiating his contract with NBC, they told him that in 5
years he would be able to become the host of “The Tonight Show”, knowing that Conan wanted to become the host of that show, and with that being done, they told Jay Leno that in 5 years he would be stepping down from being the host of the popular show. When the time come for this to happen NBC knew this was not the best decision because at the time of the “change” “The Tonight Show” was a number show, with Jay at the helm, but since they put in Conan contact that he would be the host of the show in years they let the succession begin, but they also wanted to have their cake and eat it also because instead of letting Jay move on to another network, they kept him on and gave him another show that aired at 10 pm. The concept of the show was good but a lot of television network, local affiliates complained that with Jay being on at time was messing with the broadcasting of the local news. When the decision was made to cancel the show and to make the changes
to the lineup, Conan did the right thing and just walk away from the show. But he was able to get another show on TBS and Jay went back to the “Tonight Show”, the
worst thing that NBC did during this time was putting someone in as a host that really wasn’t prepared to become the host of the program and second was that instead of letting Jay go, since they told him to step down, they kept him and gave him his own show that was to be aired 5 days a week at 10, “The Tonight Show” lite, like I use to say.

Consider a time where you have acted as a leader in the past and had to mitigate an issue.
Examine how you resolved the issue. If the issue was not resolved, examine the steps you took to address the issue and determine a new approach that may have helped you to resolve the issue.
I currently work in the supplemental insurance industry, and I have to deal with people that want certain things done that is sometimes goes above and beyond. Recently I was given a task to do by my supervisor, this was something that many people would have given back to her so that someone else should or could do it. But I decided to work on the request 1 part at a time, piece by piece. I actually had some help with some of it,but now the task is complete and the supervisor and Leadership was happy the request was done and complete.

From the first e-Activity, discuss whether the results of the assessment did or did not confirm your initial thoughts. Then, assess the benefits of being left brained, right brained, and whole brained, and determine the type(s) of conflicts that can be presented
as a result within a group. Determine the brain type that you believe to be the most successful in today’s workplace. Support your position.
When I first discovered that we were going to do an assessment on if we are Right or
Left brained, I thought that I would be Left, but I took the test twice, once on my Ipad and the other on my laptop, and the first time I took it I was told that I was Left brained, which what I thought and the second time, I was told that I was right brained. But after reading the difference in the 2 I realized that I might a little bit of
both because there are times when I can be rational in my thinking and doing things
but then there are other time when I can act out of emotion, which at times can get me into trouble. I can be a very organized person, everything has it place but then again when I working I can work in what I called “madness” letters and papers can be everywhere but I don’t let anyone touch anything until I tell them to or if I am finished with whatever I am supposed to be doing. But I know when I work in “madness” once I am complete with what I am supposed to do, everything is placed back where its supposed to go, so that the next time I need the information I will be able to I am a very organized person but I work in what I call “madness”, I have stuff everywhere when I am working and I don’t anything to be moved because when I need to find a letter or a document to do research with, I know where it is, or
where itd supposed to be at. But once I am done for the day or completed with that task, I will put the information in the place where it supposed to be and where I will have instant access to them the next time I need it. It also states that being a Right brainer, I like to be free willing and not like structure, but think I can be free willing
but I like structure at times, but at the company that I work for I am currently a
tele-worker, which I work from home, inorder for me to do my job from home I have to be able to work without supervison and to do my work with any help but also within the rules and regulations that were set forth by the company and
my department.
Examine the advantages and disadvantages of administering personality tests to individuals interviewing for a job. Determine which career fields would benefit from this
practice the most. Support your position and describe an experience you have had with personality tests.
The advantages for administrating a personality test to indviduals interviewing for a job is that you can find out what the person is like, how they think and how they will handle certain situations that my araise. The disadvantage to giving a personality test is that the test will not determine if the person is a qualified candidate for the job. The type of job that
I think will benefit from giving personality tests to its future employees are Customer Service Representatives, because this is the type of job that deals will customers that call about different situations or questions that they might have. Using a personality test will help determine which candidate will be qualified to work within that department, using the test can let the interviewer know how to handle or treat the person that is being interviewed, also if the person is hired using the test can let the trainer know how to train the person for the job.

From the second e-Activity, examine the success story of the entrepreneur that you selected. Compare the tips for success that Lisa Druxman has recommended against any tips for success that have been recommended by the entrepreneur you selected. Determine the common themes among the two entrepreneurs. Explain whether you use these tips or not and the results of doing so.
In during my research in successful Entrepreneurs I decided that I wanted to do mine on one of my role models, OprahWinfrey, she started a media empire. She grew up in rural Mississippi, by her Mother and her Grandmother, actually being sexually abused by male members of her family, With this happening to her she became sexually promiscuous, doing the wrong things, when her mother tried to have place in a juvenile facilities because she was not able to control her, but as fate would have it there was not any room for her. So Her mother decided to send Oprah
to live with her father. And that’s when everything in her life changed. Her father stressed success in academics. When Oprah was still in high school she got her first job at a Radio station, which started her on the road that she remains on to this day.
Lisa Druxman and Oprah shares the same beliefs in running their companies, she has partnered up with the a lot of people, especially the owner and CEO of Discovery Health, to help and assist her in starting and running her own television

network, OWN channel, she have the spousal and the family support that she needs

In reading about the success of Lisa and Oprah, I realized that I do use some of the
things that they both use to make themselves successful in their related fields. Since learning that I need to have a vision on what I want and partner up with someone that has the same vision that I have, in order to be successful in my career.
Take a position on the following question: Are stereotypes in the workplace useful or not? Provide support for your position.
In my opinion stereotypes are not useful in the workplace. I know that stereotypes exist within the business field but they shouldn’t because the assumption that a person is one way but when you actually get to see how or what the person has to say, you come to realize that they are another way all together, sometimes you find out that the person has the same thoughts and opinions as you do.

"Attribution and Social Learning" Please respond to the following:
•
From the first e-Activity, contrast the advantages and disadvantages of just-in-time learning. Evaluate whether or not this is a valid and worthwhile investment to help increase the productivity within an organization. Describe your personal experience(s) with just-in-time learning.
Before reading about Just in time learning, I have never heard about this before. I knew that people learned at different rates, but the way they learn is another story. I think the in
line process of learning has gotten me to think about how I personally learn, I know that with the job that I currently have I, we are constantly asked to read different stuff and
look up things. At one point in time I used print off all the important stuff because I can use them as a point of reference when I am working on something that cause me to use this information, but now the same information that we would print off is now posted on line, so instead of printing it off, I would save the information into my personal files so that when I am on any company computer I will be able to access the information that I need at any time.
The longer I work for the company the way I learn is changing for the better because now I am about to do a lot of work without asking my Supervisor about what do I need to do, I am about to work on my own, If I have questions about what I am working on I am about to look up the information that I need or I can ask my lead or supervisor for help. With the
way that I learn the faster my production is, because I am able to retain the information that I need and disregard the rest.
•
From the second e-Activity, reflect on a job interview or evaluation where you felt that
you were unfairly treated or had to answer tricky questions. Examine how that
affected your view of the organization and / or the interviewer(s). Determine whether
the social
learning theory that you researched can be applied to this scenario. Support your reasoning.
I don’t know or remember any interview that I have where I was treated unfairly or had to
answer a tricky question. All the interviews that I can remember I have been treated fairly and never asked anything that I have considered “Tricky”. With my current job I remember the 1
st
interview that I had with them because of the way it came about…In order to apply for the job you have a to take a test and pass it, which they grade right then and there, they graded mine and I found out that I had passed and that’s when they let you
complete all the other information for the pre-employment process, and to schedule you for an interview, well the woman that was there asked me if I would be able to come in on a
certain day, which I told her yes, not knowing that she meant the following week, not the next day. I showed up for the interview on time actually 15 minutes before time. Only to find out that I was there 1 week to soon, she started laughing and so did I, she didn’t ask me to come back like some might have done, but she just had me interview with another recruiter, but with that situation, I went into that interview more relaxed and comfortable than I ever had been. I know that me being relaxed and taking the situation as it was a simple mistake and not making a big deal about it, help me in getting the job that I have been in for the past 9 ½, 10 years in May, because it showed them that I can handle anything that may come my way.
In a round-about and strange way the learning theory that I followed and that I research was the Observation, because I listened and watched what was going on around me at the time, and I think if I would have heard the wrong thing or worry in anyone that was involved, I might have reacted differently than what I did, but since they all laughed it off, I
was more relaxed and comfortable when I finally went into the interview.

"Attribution Errors and Negative Reinforcement" Please respond to the following:
•
Many students work while attending college. Provide at least two examples of the halo effect in your place of employment or in the classroom.
In the company that I currently work for I am always seeing the Halo effect, with the people that are considered helpful and always volunteers to do things, are the ones that management finds out that this person is not performing their job duties to the best of their abilities and then there are those that don’t volunteer for anything, but management thinks that they don’t do their job or is not performing well, and then they find out that this person is the highest performer on their team and is doing more for the company than they think
•
Examine the accuracy and inaccuracy of stereotypes. Determine the impact that even a positive stereotype can have. Support your position by describing a situation where this is true.
Sometimes stereotypes can be both positive and negative. With some people these stereotypes can be accurate and with others they are inaccurate. There a lot of stereotypes that we have in life that are the positive ones that we live with daily like “Woman are kind and compassionate”. I know that most woman are a definition of this stereotype but there are others that might say that they are not this, and would never be considered this of woman because they consider themselves something else. But in my opinion everyone has a
positive and negative stereotype about someone or something

From the case study, analyze Mary’s attitude before and after the meeting with Sue. Determine which motivation theory applies best to this scenario. Support your answer
Mary went into her performance review nervous about what was going to happen,
when she left her review she was on cloud 9 because he gave her a good evaluation scores and then she was given a 10 percent raise that was effective immediately. When she meet with her new co-worker Sue, who recently graduated
from the same school that Mary graduated from, she thought that she was the best worker in the company, but after talking to Sue, Mary learned that with her 10
percent raise, she was only making $44,000 which is $1000 less to what Sue’s starting salary. Mary had a right be have a “Sour” attitude because she just found
out that all that hard work that she was putting in with the company was not “Paying” out as she thought, all the good things that she thought about the company all went “Down the drain”.
The theory that motivates Mary is the Acquired needs theory, which entails that needs for achievement which is the desire to do better, solve problems or master
complex task, when Mary started her job she was able to desire and want more out of job, she was able to handle and complete all the complex tasks that were placed in front of her and she was able to state her issues and opinions about issues that she was having with completing a task.

From the scenario, determine the actions you would take following the discovery of the document. Predict the legal and ethical implications of the action you are proposing
.
If someone within my department printed out information about employees,
who were high producers and how much they made and left it on the printer, I would be the type to read the information and then find out who printed it and return it back to them and to warn them to be careful of what they leave on the printer. That is the ethical and the right thing to do.
Legally I am not sure what should or shouldn’t happen, but I know that I should talk about what I read, so I will use this “In one ear and out the

Linking Motivation and Performance" Please respond to the following:
•
Describe an instance where you were involved in a situation where you had to strategize in order to lead the group out of a crisis (e.g., at work, as a member of a sports team, debating team, etc.). Evaluate the strategies that you employed to motivate the group and overcome the problem(s). If you were never in a situation like this, imagine what it would be like and propose strategies you believe would help resolve an issue.
I cannot remember a situation to where I had to lead a group through a rough situation, but if I was a leader that was in that type of situation I would try to remain calm, as they say “Don’t let them see you sweat”, delegate small tasks to
my team members, give a definite deadline as to when all the information has to be completed and submitted and to keep the lines of communication open. Once
the situation has past debrief my team to tell them the outcome to find out what
was done, what wasn’t done and what could be done, if a situation like that ever happened again, the team members, i.e employees will know what to do.
•
Consider your current job or a past job. Compare the intrinsic rewards to the extrinsic rewards you receive in your current job or received from your past job. Determine the impact each type of reward has or had on your life. Then, describe two ways that you use
intrinsic rewards and two ways you use extrinsic rewards in your professional or personal life.
At the company that I currently work for, they use both Intrinsic and extrinsic rewards. The extrinsic rewards sometimes come from our internal and external customers that we deal with from day to day. We do a lot of emailing at time and when we do something or complete something that was completed early or faster
than we said it would take, we would get a some kind of praise, or an honor from that person. Next week my company will be celebrating our Employee Appreciation Week., and during this time, the company celebrates its employees, its an annual event and we receive gifts, anything from small gift cards to Computers, it depends. On the final day, Friday we have a big celebration where the company is closed for about 4 hours that day and all the employees gather with the CEO, CFO and the others that sit on the Board of Directors to celebrate individual employees. Teams and companywide achievements, they can receive anything from money to trips to annual company convention that is held, to me that is a true example of Intrinsic rewards.
In my personal life, I think I use both, I am not a parent but I have a four legged son, my dog Sampson. There are times when he does something that I just give him praise for but then there are others when get a dog treat, bone or his toy to play with
Week 5 Discussion 1
"Organizations as Networks of Teams" Please respond to the following:
•
From the case study, determine if Christine is an effective group leader. Support your reasoning. Recommend a solution that would help her to improve.
Christine is being an effective leader is some cases. When the team was first formed and they had their first meeting where they elected her as the Team Chairperson, she should have outlined what she expected from everyone on the team, also she should have gotten
all a list of all there schedules, when they had class and when they went to work, so she can schedule what time to schedule any meetings that they would need to have. And when she started to have issues with Mike, she should address them with him at that time
and not waited until the week before the assignment is due to discuss with him, if she would have addressed them at that time, she could have found out what she could do to help him with his issues, maybe schedule the meetings at a time when he is on break on on the weekend, or maybe someone that he could talk to, just to listen.
•
From the case study, determine what Christine needs to understand about individual membership in groups in order to build group processes that are supportive of her group’s work performance.
Christine needs to understand that each person is an individual and each person needs to know what is expected of them, so that each part of the assignment will be completed and turned in on time.
Discussion 2
"High Performance Teams" Please respond to the following:
•
Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel has sought to move his team beyond past behavior problems into a new era. To do so, he made senior players accountable for making sure teammates act properly at all times. Determine whether you agree or disagree with his approach. Support your reasoning. Propose ways that those without formal authority can manage others
I agree with the Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel to have the senior players be held accountable for the behavior of the younger players. Because sometimes it’s the younger players that causes the bad behavior of a team because they don’t know when or when not to do something, with the coach making the senior making the senior players accountable for the younger ones, they are giving the younger players someone to look up to, someone that they can emulate, someone that can tell them what to do and
what not to do in certain situations.
Finally the ones that is does not have the authority or the position to manage others
can be an example their co-workers can follow, be a mentor to the new person on the
team, giving them an example of being a good team member.
•
Examine two different ways of managing group behavior problems. Determine which method you believe to be the most effective. Provide a rationale for your selection.
The two ways to manage a behavior problem in a group is to communicate what each member on the team role is, what their job function, what they are supposed to do and learn how each member in the group work, some people like to get things done right then and there, some like to work under the gun, and some like to work with tasks.
Week 6 Discussion #1
"Decision Environments" Please respond to the following:
•
From the first e-Activity, describe the company’s business culture.
Determine whether it is certainty, risk, or uncertainty. Then, examine ways
that external factors contribute to the state of the company.
The company that I decided to research is Aflac, the reason I decided on this company is
that I have been working there for 10 years, as of May 17
th
. Aflac was ranked 118 on the
Fortune’s 500 list, they made 25.4 billion dollars in 2013.
Aflac employees enjoy a supportive work environment and organizational culture with an open-door management philosophy, excellent benefits, competitive salaries, award- winning training and development classes, advancement opportunities, Georgia's largest on-site child-care centers, a monthly employee magazine, community activities, an annual Employee Appreciation Week, and an annual holiday party for Aflac employees and their families.
Aflac is committed to creating and sustaining a work environment and company culture, where all employees of our diverse workforce can perform at their very best. We want employees to maintain a healthy work/life balance. Employees are encouraged to schedule personal time off (PTO) to enable them to attend their children's or family's activities or to take care of other personal priorities.
We're a serious company with promises to keep to more than 50 million people worldwide. But that doesn't mean we can't enjoy being at the workplace and have some fun along the way! In fact, camaraderie and fun are encouraged so strongly at Aflac that they are a part of our values.
As a company Aflac is a certainty because there are people that will always want supplemental Insurance, they trust who they really want. (ht

where you are constantly getting phone calls, emails and faxes from policyholder, estates(family members), associates, and internal employees; requesting for you to do different things, or to look up something for them.
•
Examine an instance where you had to make an intuitive decision that required quick thinking on your part. Describe the end result of the decision you made and evaluate your decision-making skills. Then, determine what you would do differently based on the knowledge and insight you have gained since then
.
The definition of intuitive thinking is approaches problems in a flexible and spontaneous fashion.
The time that I had to think on my feet was when, I received an email from an associate that I
have contract with before, when I received the email I was just about to log off the computer for the day, my suspervisor had left early that day. So when I read the email I realized it had to do with an account that I didn’t have any knowledge of or understanding, but the futher I read the email I realized what he was asking and it was something I could do and place into my remarks, why I was doing what I was doing. In the end, the email was completed, that day and was done the right way. The next morning when my supervisor came in she had received the email from the associate telling her that I completed the request and that I did it in a timely and swift manner. I would do it again, because working emails and something that is typically outside of my job description, gives me more experience and will help me, if and when I get promoted into another position.
Discussion #2
"Conflict Management Style" Please respond to the following:
•
From the second e-Activity, examine the results of the survey. Determine whether you agree or disagree. Support your position with an example.
In the Conflict Management Style survey, it said that I was Avoiding and Reactive, which means that I tended to avoid conflict and I was more reactive. I tend to agree with this statement, sort of. I am the type of person that will avoid conflict, if I feel that there away
to compromise on an issue, I would rather talk it out and discuss it, but if I feel that there is no way to come to a compromise on an issue, I will walk away, sometimes, just agreeing to get it over with. But there are time when I can be aggressive, or better yet Passionate about what I want, and if I know what I am saying is the right and I have the proof to back up what I say, I am will not compromise, or give in, sometimes I have stepped on some people toes just to get the issued resolved and completed. But then again
I can be very stubborn, but that’s just the Capricorn in me!
•
From the third e-Activity, examine the actions that Mulally engaged in that resulted
in Ford becoming a more successful company. Examine how these actions relate to functional and dysfunctional conflict scenarios in the related vignette in Chapter 10.
In 2006 when Allen Mulalley was hired as CEO of Ford Motors, everyone thought that how can someone that came from “Airplanes” run a “Car” company. But with Mulally at the helm, Ford has made 360 degree turn. In the beginning the Ford Senor executives, managers and supervisors
were not on the same page, they had meetings just to have meeting, just arguing and not really getting anything done, not being on the same page. Mulalley, started having weekly meeting with
the senior executives, managers and supervisors, to discuss what is going on within the company,
each division and the departments. Each had to do a self-appraisal on what they did and didn’t do
with that period of time. Mulalley, also start having “Town Hall” meetings with the employees of the company to discuss what the future of the company will be and what they wanted or were planning to do at that current time. He wanted to have everyone within the company to be on the same page, and on one accord. With Mulalley at the helm, Ford made the turn around that he set forth to do.
In reading about Allen Mulalley, he somewhat reminds me of Dan Amos, the CEO of Aflac, because we are on one accord, all of our management have weekly meetings, to discuss how the company, each division and departments are doing. And we also have quarterly “State of the Department” meetings (SOD) where all the executives, within the department, have a meeting with all the employees, to discuss the decision that has been made within the department, and what they are planning for the department down the road.
Week 7 Discussion 1
"Organizational Politics" Please respond to the following:
•
From the self-assessment, describe what the assessment suggests about your own attitudes. Determine whether or not this could lead to actions that might be viewed unfavorable by coworkers.
My Mach score was 23, which is considered about average. I have always considered
myself to be the type of leader that is logical and emotional, at times, I try to do things by the book, but there are times when you have to follow your own path, and do what you feel is the right thing to do for your team and the company that you work for.
•
From the e-Activity, consider the company you investigated and your results from the self-assessment. Propose ways to ensure that you use your power appropriately and effectively.
The company that I decided to do research on is the Atlanta Public school system, In 2010, the school system was caught up in a cheating scandal that took down everyone from the Superintendent down. The investigation got stated when the Teachers and the Principles in Atlanta area schools, erased an corrected the mistakes on CRCT tests, that the student took
to make the county have scores higher than what they were. Many of the teachers were afraid to say or do anything because of the repercussions that they might face if they told what was actually going on. The APS had a mob mentality, where the superintendent, was at the head, and everyone else fell in line.
If I was the Superintendent of the Atlanta school system at this time, I would not have made it seem like, I was working for the mob and I was the head mobster. I would have let the scores speak for themselves. With the low scoring schools I would have placed them on the list that needs to improvement and let them get the money that is set aside for these schools to help them get the resources that they need to help them improve and to help the student get what they need in order to pass the test.
Discussion 2
Interpersonal Communication" Please respond to the following:
•
In Season 6 of the Amazing Race, contestants traveled to Dakar, Senegal. The stress of the competition combined with the difficulties of a new culture caused problems for some of the teams. Assess the benefits of being culturally aware and able to communicate
globally in today’s business world. Determine whether this is a necessary attribute for all employees who work for domestic-based companies and multinational companies or just for top executives of these companies.
With many companies these days marketing to the overseas market, they need to be culturally aware when dealing with the differences in these countries. For example, Aflac sells supplemental insurance in other countries, like Guam, Samoa and Japan, with Guam and Soma, the people in these countries speak English but the speak and write in spoken English, and their customs and ways are different from what we do, But when our Top Excutives travel to japan, we are told they study up on the culture, the language, the cultures of the Japanese people, just like they are studying for a test. Because when they get
there they don’t want to upset the wrong person by doing or saying something that can upset someone.
•
Today, many companies are using the Internet to evaluate employees, both current and prospective. There are stories of employees who are fired or disciplined for things they say online about the company or for what they post to their Facebook pages. Assess how well you are able to divide your personal and professional life on social networks. Determine if you would be comfortable with a prospective employer viewing your photos. Speculate the message(s) that your current social networking page(s) communicate about you.
I try to keep my personal and professional life separate. I have a Facebook, twitter, intagram and YouTube page. With my Facebook, Twitter and Instagram page, I keep a tight rein on what I do and say, because I know my page is being monitored by my company. I think because I am older when the internet age comes to be that I know what and what not to do. I really don’t like posting pictures on my page, because there are times
when I forget that I actually take them. But when I do post them I make sure they are professional, or something that I would be able to show my parents if they wanted to see them. I don’t accept friend request from people that I personally don’t know, what I mean,
you can’t just add me if I am a friend of a friend, or if I work in the same department as you. I will add people that I know personally, I went to school with you or I worked with you at one point in time.
Week 8 Discussion 1
"Inspirational and Relational Leadership Perspectives" Please respond to the following:
•
From the first e-Activity, evaluate whether the decision to expose the
company’s culture, strategy, and secrets to outsiders was or was not a good

company, can and if the average person or group wanted to take a class about the company, they will be able to learn everything that Zappos has to offer. By the company being “Open Book” they are able to attract future employees that might not have considered working with this company.
The Stakeholders of the company are actually happy that this concept was brought into
play because more people know about the company and are willing to buy and operate
with a company that is open and they know what is actually going on.
•
From the second e-Activity, determine whether or not Zappos’ idea could be utilized
in your current or previous place of employment and in what way(s). If it cannot be applied in your current or previous place of employment, create a scenario in which
it could. Support your reasoning.
At the company that I currently work for we already follow the 10 core values that Zappos has in
place for it company, We are constantly striving to deliver WOW through service, as the company and the business world changes, we are able to Embrace the and Drive for change, We are always creating fun in the workplace and there are some that can be kind of weird but, without them the company would not be the same, as an employee of the company we are adventurous, creative and Open-minded because of the work we do, we have to be able to think on our feet and sometimes, do things that are outside of the box. We are always pursing growth and learning, we have the opportunity to take classes that will help you to gain experience that you will need in order to gain a promotion, or you can take a class on how to improve how you work, or how to interview or how to conduct and interview, it just depends on what you want to take. We have to build open and honest relationships with communication, we must communicate regularly about what we are doing, to either our internal or external customers. We
have to build a positive team and family spirit, we are working in a team environment and we have to be able to work together, be able to understand how the other works, how they feel and how they think within the work environment. We are always doing more for less, in this day and
time many companies are doing more work either with less people or with less product. We have
to be passionate and determined about we do, I think that everyone has to be like this because if they aren’t then they will not be doing the job that they are doing, and Finally we have to be humble, I have never seen anyone that worked for the company brag about what they did or where they were, they are always doing something for others which trickles down to the people that works for them, we don’t brag about what we do, we just let the work speak for itself.
Discussion 2
"Moral Leadership" Please respond to the following:
•
From the Research Insight, determine how the values of the CEO might affect the mission, vision, and members of an organization. Propose ways that you could learn the values of your university president or campus dean and how you can use this information
.
The CEO of a company can determine the mission of the company, the vision and the member of the organization. The CEO, in most cases, is the founder of the company; they
are the ones that normally set the rules as how the company will be ran and what the culture will be.
If I wanted to know the core values of my University president or campus dean, I would
google them to find out what they used to, the ladder that they claimed to get to where they are, and then I would look on the campus website to determine what the School Moto, or quote is , Also I will look to see if the campus I am planning on going to has core values in place, something that each and every employee of the campus or College is trying to follow.

Less than 16 percent of board members in major U.S. corporations are female. Suggest at least three (3) reasons why women are so underrepresented on the boards of these major U.S. corporations. Propose two ways that women can increase
their representation on boards. Determine whether or not an all-male or an all-
female board would be an issue, given the current state of affairs. Support your reasoning.
I know that I currently work for a company that has at least 2 women on its board of directors. But this is not the case at many companies, many feel that woman are not aggressive enough to
be on the board, don’t speak up and don’t network with the right people in order to be voted or placed on the board. I believe that more women should on every board of directors but if this is
going to happen, companies should offer mentoring programs where any employee could be assigned a mentor to show them what is involved with the job, and what is needed in order to apply. Also, woman should start their own companies, with them begin the CEO, they can sit whomever they want on their board, especially more woman, since they are the owner and the founder.
Week 9 Discussion 1
"Organizational Culture" Please respond to the following:
•
From the e-Activity, describe some of the stories, rites, rituals, and symbols that are representative of the organization’s culture of your current or previous employer. Examine how you have responded to these cultural elements. Determine if the ways you responded to the cultural elements did or did not help you to adjust.
When I started working at my current job, I was not used to a company that the employees ideas, thoughts and feelings were taken into consideration when decisions are made for the department and or company. Being at the company for the past 10 years, I have come to learn that many of the company promotions are given to people with in the company, you normally don’t have to be already in that department, but when the position is posted, you need to apply and interview for the
position. Some that apply for these positions, actually have the experience and education that required to have this type of job but most have networked or job shadowed, someone, so that when the position becomes available, they can apply and are hired because they got to know the right people.
At the time, when I started working there I thought I could get my promotion on my own, but as time went by I learned that I needed to network with the people within the department or the division that I would like to work in.

Determine five characteristics of innovation teams that are linked to their success. Rank these
characteristics in order of importance (one being the most important, and five being the least important). Select one of the characteristics of innovation teams that you believe you relate to. Support your position.
1.
Vision
2.
Internal communication
3.
Cohesion
4.
Task orientation
5.
Support for innovation
The characteristics of the innovation team that I can relate to is internal communication, in current
job rules and regulations are constantly changing, but our upper management doesn’t communicate this information and a lot of misunderstandings and issues arise because management didn’t communicate the changes to us or decided that we didn’t need to know.
For example, they changed one of the systems that we used to process a restoration of a policy. Instead of the department telling everyone that uses this system that they were going to make changes and that they were going to offer a class to show us how to use it. Only 1 person was aware
of this change and she didn’t tell anyone about, because she made the assumption that everyone knew. So when the change happened, many people complained, to leads, supervisors and management, because no one knew what to do or how to fix what they did
Discussion # 2
"Ethics in Organizational Behavior" Please respond to the following:
•
From the scenario, determine who you would choose to lay off and explain why. Propose criteria that can be used to decide who gets laid off in organizations.
If I was put in the position on whom I should let go, Sarah and Mary. Who would I choose, that would be a hard question for me to answer because both employees have what is need to make the company a success. But I think I would choice Sarah, she is the younger of the 2, she will be more willing to work overtime and go on the out of town business trips without having the family commitments that Sarah has, even though she has probably been with the company for many years and her performance appraisal is high, she is not willing to work overtime or go on those out of town business trips when ask to do so. Also, Sarah might make just a little bit less than Sarah, if the company is doing layoff due to the economic turn and are trying to save money, the employee salary should be taken into consideration.
I was laid off from my last job, my position was phased out and the company was moving some of our department overseas, to Japan, when I was told I took it ok, people were looking at me like I had did something wrong but I didn’t because I knew that I did my job
well and that I had just received a raise. At the time I was laid off, I was about 2 months a way from Graduating from college and I thought that the severance package that I was offered, would and could last me to the end of the year, and at that time I can apply for unemployment while I looked for another job. If took me about 5 months to find me

another job, which is at the company the currently work for, but I did learn something during the time that I was looking for a job. I hated looking for a job, because that became my job.
•
From the scenario, determine the level of emphasis that organizations should place on
ensuring that layoff decisions are ethical and legal. Propose ways for organizations to
achieve the goal of ethical and legal layoffs.
I think that many organizations these days are laying off people in an ethical and legal ways. These people are able to collect unemployment, even if it’s a temporary layoff, where the employer will hire, or call the employee back at later time or Permanent, where the employee will have to find a new place of employment.
If a company is placed into a position where they have to lay people off, either temporally or permanently, they should decide why they are laying these people off, is it for economic reasons, lack of work or the employee department got phased out. Then they need to determine who they are going to let go, and if they decided they are going to keep some, which employees will they keep and which ones will they let go, and the ones that the company lets go, will they be able to be rehired again, when a position becomes available
Week 10
Discussion #1
"Attribute of Organizations" Please respond to the following:
•
From the first vignette, “Employee Autonomy: A Little Freedom Goes a Long Way “, assess the advantages and disadvantages of providing employees with autonomy in their jobs. Select the most enjoyable job that you have had, and think of ways in which that employer could have increased the autonomy of that job.\
The advantages and disadvantages of employers giving the autonomy in their jobs is
that some people who are not dedicated to the company, only there for a paycheck, will take advantage of the leeway that is being giving, they would be willing to give the 100% that all the others that is taking advantage of this and doing the work and also volunteering for other assignments that are being offered.
I think the most enjoyable job I have ever had has been my current position, I am currently a teleworker for my company, which means that I can do my job from the comfort of my home. I have been doing this for the past 7 years and I have been
with the company for 10. Being able to work from home has been a blessing to me, because we are allowed to start working between the hours of 6 am to 9am and we can work until 12 am, as long as we make our 8 hours, normally I am done by 4 but
I have worked until 11 pm. With my position being in a production environment, I have the leeway to schedule appointments, without having to take Personal time off
or make up the time that I missed going to that appointment/meeting.
Since I am currently a teleworker and I have to be able to think on my own and sometimes think outside the box to complete tasks, but my company/department can increase the autonomy of my position by letting all the employees approve certain
things that normally we would have to get with our leads and supervisor to do, this will save time and money, management can review our decisions before we complete the assignment.
•
As organizations restructure and cut back on staff, a burden is placed on the employees that remain. Imagine that you work for an organization that has just cut back on staff and
you, a remaining employee, are feeling overburdened with the extra work. Propose ways
that the organization could address the shortage that would still result in cost savings but
also allow employees to feel less burdened.
I am currently in that situation, our company/department, we didn’t fire people but
we have stopped hiring, Our department has worked with less people but we are continuing to receive the same amount of work, which has to be done. Our department has done contests where employees have to do something and then they
are placed in a drawing for a gift card or movie tickets. The whole company has went Green, or better yet is trying. Since we are in a production environment, our production quota was moved up. But certain things that we used to do were moved from our department to another.
Discussion #2
"Leading the Whole Organization Strategically" Please respond to the following:
•
From the second vignette, “Finding the Leader in You: Jim Sinegal’s Strategy at Costco is to Not Follow the Crowd”, analyze the strategies that Costco uses to ensure success. Determine whether or not Costco’s strategy for its stakeholders is applicable to other companies. Support your reasoning.
Costco is a company that is marching to the beat of their own drummers, employees of their company makes higher than what people who makes minimum wage, they are offered health insurance and 401K because many discount stores doesn’t even want to offer health insurance for these employees. The company will mentor an employee from the start of their position at company to help them reach the goals that they have set for themselves, either working their way up from the bottom to upper management, and beyond.
The stakeholders of the company has nothing to worry about because with the reputation of the company and employee’s staying with the company for years, which makes the company an excellent place to work for. Besides Costco advertise just by the word of mouth, if you sell it the people will come.
•
From the e-Activity, evaluate the importance of being involved in a social project. Describe the project(s) that you have selected and examine how being involved with these projects would help you as the leader of an organization.
At the company that I work for, we are involved with many organizations, but I like the fact that we are involved with Habit for Humanity because I feel that the deserving people should have a home, and every year our company holds a drawing for volunteers, who for a week, will go to work on helping the building of this house and I would also would like to get more involved with any reading program that is around, because I feel that the being able to read will open up anyone to a world of possibilities.
Week 11
Discussion #1
"Transfer It" Please respond to the following:
•
Determine ways you plan to apply what you learned in this course to your current or
future position
Currently I am working on becoming either a Business or a Resource Analyst within our company. But the things that I have learned from this course is actually the same things that we have as “Rules” for our company, they are actually painted on the walls in the hallway of our company, and they are Communicate regularly, Respond Immediately, Know
your
stuff,
Treat
everyone
with
respect
and
care,
Your
problem
is
my
problem,
Shoot straight,
and Cover
the
customer
and
your
behind.
Create a persuasive argument of this type of course being a requirement for higher level management within organizations.
Many organizations have managers that are just that managers they do the job but they
don’t know how to leaders or the Organizers of the team. This course will help the Manager or the manager trainee, learn about how people listen, how people actually work because some people don’t work the same, how certain people react in certain situations, what type of leader you are, and if you are actually leadership material, some
people are followers and not leaders.
Discussion #2
"Sum It Up" Please respond to the following:
•
Rate the three most important concepts that you learned in this course in order of importance (one being the most important).
The most important concept that I learned in this course would be communication, a lot of misunderstanding and arguments occur when something is not communicated to the right person, when everyone involved is told everything that needs to be done, what is needed from them in order for the situation to be solved and how long it’s going to take to get the situation resolved. The second concept that I feel that is most important is learning how to deal with different people on a team, knowing that everyone doesn’t work the same as you do. Learning that just because you might do it one way doesn’t mean that another person that does it another way won’t come to the same conclusion or answer. As they say “there is more than one way to skin a cat”. The Third and final concept that I feel was most important was being able to be a leader, knowing what kind of leader you are, because there are some people that were just placed in a position not knowing how or what to do. And

then there are some that are good leaders and want to lead their teams in the right direction.
•
Write a speech that you would give to a friend in an elevator summing up the contents of this course. You have 30 to 90 seconds to inform your friend of the most important elements. Go!
To make this short and sweet…If you plan on becoming a Leader or Manger within this company or any company in general, you should take this class “Leadership and Organization Behavior” this class with help you determine what type of leader you are, how organize your team and how to work with the different people within your team and Organization.
