Report
Bullying in the Workplace Bullying is usually seen as acts or verbal comments that could psychologically or mentally hurt or isolate a person in the workplace. Sometimes, bullying can involve negative physical contact as well. Bullying usually involves repeated incidents or a pattern of behavior that is intended to intimidate, offend, degrade, or humiliate a particular person or group of people. Bullying in any form at a workplace should not be tolerated. Every person should be able to work in a safe and healthy workplace. Prevention is the best tool to eliminate any harassment in the workplace. Employers are encouraged to take appropriate steps to prevent and correct unlawful harassment. They should clearly communicate to employees that unwelcome harassing conduct will not be tolerated. An effective complaint or grievance process providing anti- harassment training can be established, and taking immediate and appropriate action when an employee complains. Employers should strive to create an environment in which employees feel free to raise concerns and are confident that those concerns will be addressed. Employees are encouraged to inform the harasser directly that the conduct is unwelcome and must stop. Employees should also report harassment to management at an early stage to prevent its escalation. I have experienced unwanted physical contact as well as verbal abuse in the workplace. I had reported the incidents to my management, but never received an apology from the abuser. I think I would have felt better if the person owned up to the abuse and offered an apology.
