2 Homework Q 5.1 Select and discuss an example in national or world business where you believe a CEO and his company are authentic in addressing the impact of a crisis (ex: COVID-19) or the economy (your choice) on the company’s employees and the customer. Effective and successful deployment of authentic leadership practices lead to long-term, veritable, and sustainable organizational performance. Swizz is one of the largest companies across the globe that deals with the distribution medical equipment and drugs. The company was founded in 2000 by Joseph Jay. The company has about 500 employees with 200 branches in 20 countries. Joseph Jay has always been a proponent of authentic leadership, which has enhanced the company’s performance and success. He believes that authenticity is the root construct or principle underlying all the positive leadership styles. Amongst the four components of authenticity, Joseph often reciprocates self-awareness ( Johnson, 2019) . By definition, self- awareness is being conscious of and the degree of our desires, feelings, and self-concept. The employees are interested to emulate the leadership style practiced by their leader because they could physically witness its positive impacts. As a result, they act courageously, they often resist temptation, and they feel empowered to make ethical decisions without the need of their leaders’ inputs. During the high-end of the COVID-19 spread and transmission, Joseph Jay demonstrated to the world the significance of adopting authentic leadership style. Swizz company was known for distributing the personal protection equipment (PPEs) such as gloves and masks to different countries globally. It is evident that the authentic leadership of the company’s leader is associated with higher follower satisfaction, commitment, effort, performance, and organizational citizenship behavior.
3 Homework Q 5.2 Select an example in national or world business or current events where you believe an individual is clearly demonstrating transformational leadership regarding domestic and world humanitarianism. Transformational leadership, by description, focuses on terminal values such as justice, equality, and liberty. The values primarily energize, motivate, and mobilize followers while developing an agenda for action, and appeal to larger audiences. Leaders who embrace transformational leadership are guided and controlled by duty. They are often driven by universal ethical standards and principles and treat other staff members with respect and dignity. In addition, they are altruistic in empowering others and emphasizing on shared objectives and goals. Ronald Rawlings is a great African leader who has demonstrated transformational leadership characteristics throughout his leadership regime ( Johnson, 2019) . He founded Lusaka Inc., a company that deals with the production of electricals such as laptops, woofers, and home- theatres. Some of the characteristics of a transformational leadership include; individualized consideration, idealized influence, intellectual simulation, and inspirational motivation. Notably, transformational theorists have been labeled as leader-centric because they focus on leaders while downplaying the contributions of followers. Ronald’s company began as a retail shop that was primarily used to sell electronics to the end-users. The company started with less than ten employees and later, the number of employees increased to 50. Ronald adopted stratification and business expansion strategies to ensure that the company’s scope and market share increases.
