Wk6Discussion-WMBA-6000-UnadmireableLeader Describe the leader in question and the situation in which you worked with them. The leader in question is my current workplace. For this assignment, his name will be Spider. Spider is very high up the chain of command and my immediate supervisor. I answer only to him. His leadership style is very dictatorial. He simply yells and screams to get the results he thinks are best. Identify specific traits that made the leader unadmirable or difficult to follow. He uses fear tactics to get his way. He thinks if he threatens your job, this will create a better outcome. It does not matter if it isn't your area or part of your career; he will threaten everyone. For example, a piece used daily for all three shifts ran out. The shift leader knew on Friday but reached out to the Purchasing Agent (myself) on Saturday requesting overnight shipment to receive them on Monday. The company that makes this part is closed on the weekends. However, I reached out to the rep, who said the best option is shipping overnight Monday to receive Tuesday[ CITATION Mei18 \l 1033 ]. Monday, all this was secured, except the company did not have any in stock, so they would only be able to ship them out on Tuesday to be received on Wednesday. The rep and I went above and beyond the call of duty. However, Spider did not feel that was enough. He ordered me to reach out to other suppliers and get the product in Monday evening, or my job was on the line. I worked on this until 8 pm Monday. The best I could do was drive two hours to pick some up at 6 am, Tuesday morning. I expected to go to work Tuesday and not have a job. However, Spider and his boss had me in a meeting explaining to me how Spider went above and beyond by securing the pickup early this morning and working on the situation until 8 pm, which I should learn from his dedication to the company[ CITATION SuA19 \l 1033 ]. This type of leadership does not work for me at all. I did all that I could do and felt good about the results. However, instead of a "thank you," Spider took the credit, and I got nothing. So many employees have left the company because of Spider's leadership. Identify the effects of this individual’s leadership. I am struggling hard not to be one of those employees who leave because of the leadership. However, I sugar-coated the entire situation. There was a lot of screaming, belittling, authority title-throwing, and demanding results with the whole situation. The primary effect of this individual leadership is crushing my confidence, generating a hostile working environment, and treating me like I do not matter. I am the only female manager, and the other male managers are not treated this way. Regarding following this leader, I can do everything he asks and expects of me, but he will want more. So, Spider will find some unfavorable remark, statement, or way I should have done better or differently. Even if I find a significant way, cheaper, better, and makes sense, there will still be a negative remark from him. References Meinert, D. (2018).
