My diversity quote
: diversity is “the art of thinking independently together.”
Businesses always have risks of failure when management hires employees with similar
characteristics and qualities. People from similar backgrounds think similarly, making it difficult
to develop new concepts. A lack of diversity increases the chances of achieving little growth or
change, causing stagnation of operations and results (Edis Ifas, 2020). Management should
encourage and support diversity by creating an environment accommodating everyone from
different backgrounds. Among the approaches to supporting diversity is encouraging everyone to
pitch their ideas and engage in decision-making. A leader must listen to every team member's
opinions regardless of management level (The Multicultural Advantage, 2021). Other's ideas
may help find quality outcomes by brainstorming and researching.
Secondly, leaders can promote diversity by encouraging a collaborative culture.
Collaboration is vital in promoting diversity as it helps identify various staff members with
different skills. It helps to encourage teamwork and cooperation between departments or units to
identify weaknesses and how diverse personnel can improve them. For instance, a leader can
establish small teams working collaboratively from all departments by assigning them related
tasks (Edis Ifas, 2020). Thirdly, a leader can promote diversity by developing flexible
organizational strategies and work schedules. Management must integrate flexibility into the
organizational culture to ensure everyone is comfortable working flexibly. For instance, leaders
can allow workers to work remotely provided they achieve the set monthly targets (The
Multicultural Advantage, 2021). This approach helps attract more people from diverse
backgrounds, increasing the chances of achieving quality results.
