1 Leadership Survey: List of Strengths and their Connection to Leadership Student Name Affiliation Course Professor Name Date
2 Leadership Survey: List of Strengths and their Connection to Leadership I took a leadership survey recently that helped me identify my top five strengths. In this essay, I will analyze my survey results, highlight one-character strength, explain how it suits me, and connect it to leadership concepts covered in the course. I will also provide two specific steps I intend to take to develop this strength further. 1. Top five strengths identified in this survey. According to this survey, my top five strengths include curiosity, humor, hope, zest, and honesty. Compared with table 6.3, my strengths are spread across various areas of leadership. For example, curiosity falls under cognitive strengths, humor and hope under strengths about meaning, and zest falls under emotional strengths, while honesty falls under interpersonal strengths. My interpretation of the results is that I possess well-rounded strengths that can contribute to effective leadership in various areas. 2 a. Describe, in detail, 1-character strength from your top five. Next, I will focus on one character strength from my top five: honesty. Northouse defines honesty as a requirement of any good leader (504). Indeed, as stated by Northouse, people value leaders who are honest and see them as trustworthy since if leaders stop being honest, other people will realize the are “undependable and unreliable” thus according to Northouse, others eventually lose faith in everything such leaders say or do, diminishing their respect (505). I desire to always stand for what is right to garner the respect of my team while maintaining people’s faith in me as a leader. 2b. Why/ how does this strength best suit/fit you?
3 Honesty suits me since transparency and authenticity are critical to building trust and respect in any relationship, including leadership. Furthermore, honesty is closely related to integrity, a fundamental aspect of ethical leadership. Two examples of when I demonstrated honesty is during my last team project at work and when I volunteered for a community service project. I was assigned a task I needed to improve during the team project, and I informed my team leader about it. As a result, my team leader assigned the task to someone else who was better suited for the job. In the community service project, I realized that I could not commit as much time as required due to personal reasons, and I informed the project leader about it before taking on the role. 2c. Connection to leadership in light of the leadership concepts Honesty is connected to transformational leadership according to concepts of leadership we covered in this class Transformational leaders build trust, inspire followers, and create a positive work environment by displaying honesty, integrity, and transparency. By being honest, leaders can encourage open communication, constructive feedback, and a culture of accountability. Additionally, ethical leadership emphasizes the importance of honesty in creating a culture of trust and respect that promotes ethical behavior and decision-making. 3. 2 specific concrete to take to plan to take to further develop this particular strength. I intend to develop my honesty strength further. Firstly, I will seek feedback from colleagues and friends on improving my communication and demonstrating authenticity in my interactions. This feedback will help me identify areas for improvement and provide me with a benchmark for progress. Secondly, I will consciously be transparent and authentic in my interactions by genuinely expressing my thoughts and feelings, taking responsibility for my actions, and admitting my mistakes when necessary. By doing so, I will become a more effective and ethical leader.
