I just evaluated Al Jones's underperformance and developed a Performance Improvement Plan for him. Verbal warnings and advice have been provided on a continuous basis before to and after the first assessment. His performance improved for a few weeks after our review meeting, but he has re- verted to his old habits of ignoring phone calls and taking lengthy lunches on numerous occasions, leaving his colleague to manage the task alone. I've also been mentoring him and doing weekly reviews with him. I am enraged by the situation and am contemplating terminating his contract early. I will need your opinion and help about this matter, since it also impacts my other team members. I'd want to schedule a meeting with you in advance of the meeting to discuss issues such as the per- formance improvement plan, measures to be done, final evaluation of job performance, and any HR- related actions that may be taken.
